The British Motoring brand MG is planning to bring its sibling automaker Roewe’s Marvel R pure EV SUV to India under the rebadged moniker of Marvel X. This electric SUV was unveiled in India earlier last year in February at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo. Recently the Roewe Marvel R was tested by Euro NCAP in the crash tests and the SUV received a respectable four-star safety rating.
The Marvel R’s passenger compartment was observed to be stable during the frontal offset test in the Euro NCAP’s crash testing. The SUV displayed decent protection of the knees and femurs of both the driver and passenger. However, the protection of the driver’s chest was rated as marginal, based on readings of chest compression. Along with it the protection of the body region of various passengers sitting at various positions was also rated marginal. In addition, it was also mentioned that the structure of the dashboard could pose a risk of injury to occupants of different sizes.
Euro NCAP reports stated that in the full-width rigid barrier test, Marvel R provided an adequate or good amount of protection to all the critical body regions of the passengers. The only exception was that the rear passenger’s pelvis area was injured a little more than others. Furthermore, the SUV scored maximum points available in the side barrier crash test, in this test the protection of all critical body regions was rated good.

The Roewe Marvel R comes equipped with an advanced eCall system that alerts the emergency services in case the vehicle meets a collision. It also comes with an active braking system which helps in reducing the secondary impacts in case of a mishap. Additional safety features of the Marvel R include six high-voltage circuit safety management strategies and an IP67 battery with anti-intrusion protection level.
In terms of creature comforts the SUV also comes loaded with features like an expansive 19.4-inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital display and offers a raft of connected features including live traffic information, weather forecasts and Amazon Music compatibility. In addition, it also gets an enhanced suite of advanced driver aids, dual-zone climate control, privacy glass, a panoramic sunroof, part-leather upholstery and a six-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat.
For the powertrain, Marvel R is powered by two electric motors, which are fitted over the front and rear axles. The SUV is currently available in the Chinese market with the options of an AWD and 2WD configuration. The all-wheel-drive model produces a peak power of 297bhp and 665Nm of torque, while the 2WD model produces 183bhp of power and 410Nm of torque.
The claimed range of the Marvel R stands at an admirable 500km. This is even more impressive considering the fact that it supports fast charging which can charge up the SUV to 80 percent in just 40 minutes with a DC fast charger. The Marvel R can do a sprint of 0-100 kmph in just under 4.8 seconds. However, the top speed is locked electronically at 180 kmph.
