Demand for cars have picked up in Indian market post pandemic. India is still a growing market for car manufacturers and we have seen several new brands and models getting launched into the market. Even today, a majority of population cannot afford a car in India. That is why demand for used cars have picked up as they are much more accessible and less expensive when compared to a brand new one. Every car that is legally driven on the road has a registration number. There are many people who want a fancy number for their car and are willing to spend a large amount for the same. Here we have a list of six expensive car number plates from India.
Toyota Fortuner
Ashik Patel is a huge James Bond movie fan. He bought a Toyota Fortuner SUV and wanted the fancy number ‘007’ for the car. When he bought the Fortuner, the price for the SUV started at Rs 30 lakh and Ashik wanted the ‘007’ number so badly that he spent almost 34 lakh just for the registration number. The registration of the SUV alone cost him more than the SUV.

Porsche 718 Boxster
K. S. Balagopal is a businessman from Kerala. One of the most expensive registration number on his cars is KL 01 CK 0001. The number was issued to his Porsche 718 Boxster. Mr. Balagopal spent Rs 31 lakh for the registration number on his Boxster. The cost of Porsche Boxster is around Rs 90 lakh and he spent one third of the car’s cost on registration alone.
Toyota Land Cruiser LC200
Another car in Mr. Balagopal’s garage is a Toyota Land Cruiser LC200 luxury SUV. Once again he bid for 0001 registration number for his SUV. He spent almost Rs 18 lakh on the number. The registration number on K. S. Balagopal’s and Cruiser is KL 01 CB 0001.
Toyota Land Cruiser LC200
Once again a Land Cruiser LC200 but, this time it is from Chandigarh. Jagjit Singh from Chandigarh has spent almost Rs 17 lakh in an auction for a fancy number on his Land Cruiser. It is one of the most expensive registration numbers in the country. He spent the money for the number CH 01 AN 0001. He has several other cars in his garage and many of them have 0001 number. Land Cruiser however is the most expensive vehicle in his garage.
Jaguar XJ L
Jaguar XJ L was the flagship sedan from the manufacturer however, it has now been discontinued from the market. The XJ L seen here in the picture is special not just because of the registration number but also because of the owner. Rahul Taneja is a successful businessman who started off as an auto-rickshaw driver. The most expensive registration plate in Jaipur belong to his Jaguar XJ L. He had spent around Rs 16 lakh on the number RJ 45 CG 0001.
BMW 5-Series
Rahul Taneja is also has the second most expensive registration number plate on one of his car. It is a BMW 5-Series luxury sedan. He is known to have a strong belief in numerology and that is why he always goes for the number ‘1’ for his cars. Rahul Taneja spent Rs 10.31 lakh for this registration number. He sold the 5-Series but has retained the number and is using it on his 7-Series.
