Renowned retro-style two-wheeler manufacturer, Indian Motorcycles, has announced substantial price cuts across its entire model range. It may be noted here that the complete range of Indian Motorcycle products is imported to India from the US, and the recent change in import duties have resulted into a price cut of as much as Rs 3 lakh on the flagship model. Indian sells a wide variety of motorcycles in our country, with their range comprising of entry-level motorcycles like the Scout Sixty to the top-of-the-line heavy duty Indian Roadmaster.
“We are glad that the Government has rationalized the import duty structure to 50 percent across the range for imported bikes. The new attractive price of our products available in India will definitely lead to more sales. This will also create opportunities for enthusiasts to buy our iconic products and be a part of the Indian Motorcycle family,” said Pankaj Dubey, Managing Director & Country Head, Polaris India Pvt. Ltd.
The recent relaxation in import duties on the CBU (Completely Built Unit) imports has resulted in a reduction in customs duty by a whopping 50 percent. Hence, many premium motorcycle manufacturers, like the Harley Davidson, Ducati, and Indian Motorcycle, have decided to pass on the benefit to the buyers by slashing prices of their products. Motorcycles that are assembled in India from CBU (Completely Knocked Down) kits, on the other hand, are expected to become costlier due to a rise in input costs. Also, the customs duty on imported motorcycles from countries like Thailand, which are in a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with India, will remain unchanged.
Like we mentioned above, premium bike manufacturers like Harley Davidson and Ducati have already announced a substantial reduction in prices of its CBU models. Most of the Ducati models on sale in India are made in Thailand and hence, the company has kept the prices of these models unchanged. Even BMW Motorrad has announced a reduction in the price of all its models available for sale in India. On the other hand, products from Triumph Motorcycles, which are mostly CKDs, are expected to become costlier.
