India’s 10 top-selling SUVs: Maruti Vitara Brezza to Toyota Fortuner

SUVs are the fastest growing segment in India. However, the definition of the SUVs in India has become extremely blur, and any vehicle with high ground clearance and SUV stance is called SUV, we will use the same terms for the cars used in the list. Here are India’s top-selling SUVs in the month of November.

Maruti Vitara Brezza

Units sold: 14458

The Vitara Brezza is high-volume selling SUV. It has topped the charts of sale for UVs in the past and in November, it has done it again. The Vitara Brezza is Maruti’s first sub 4-meter compact SUV in the market.

Even though the Vitara Brezza is powered by only a diesel engine, its popularity speaks volumes about it. It is powered by 1.3-litre diesel engine sourced from Fiat. It produces 89 Bhp and 200 Nm and is only available with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Hyundai Creta

Units sold: 8258

The Creta is the largest selling SUV above the 4-metre segment. The Creta is extremely popular in the segment. The Creta is quite powerful and is powerful and is powered by 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines. The petrol engine produces a maximum of 121 Bhp – 151 Nm. The diesel engine produces a maximum of 126 Bhp – 260 Nm. There is also a 1.4-litre diesel that produces a maximum of 89 Bhp – 220 Nm.

Ford EcoSport

Ford launched the refreshed EcoSport last month, and it is already in the top three number among the SUVs in India. The EcoSport gets all-new petrol dragon engine but discontinues the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The new EcoSport also gets floating type infotainment screen with SYNC3 connectivity. It is one of the best infotainment systems in the segment. The EcoSport is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that churns out 120 Bhp – 150 Nm. It gets a conventional automatic transmission with a 5-speed manual transmission. The diesel engine is a 1.5-litre 99 Bhp – 205 Nm producing a 1.5-litre engine that gets a 5-speed manual transmission.

Mahindra Bolero

Units Sold: 4911

The Bolero was once the best-selling SUV in India. The rugged utility vehicle is quite popular in the rural areas Mahindra launched a new variant of the vehicle that is under sub 4-metre. Apart from shortening the length of the Bolero, Mahindra has used a 1,493 cc, 3-cylinder mHawk turbo diesel engine in place of the 2,523 cc, four-cylinder M2DiCR turbo diesel motor. These changes have allowed the Bolero to gain excise duty benefits. There is also a regular variant with 2.5-litre DI engine that produces 62 Bhp – 195 Nm.

Tata Nexon

Units Sold: 4163

Tata’s first ever sub 4-meter compact SUV has become quite popular in the market. The Nexon boasts of unique styling and many first-in-the-segment features like tri-colour body and umbrella holder. The Nexon is powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 108 Bhp – 170 Nm and 1.5-litre turbodiesel engine that produces 108 Bhp – 260 Nm. Both of them gets the 6-speed manual transmission.

Mahindra Scorpio

Units Sold: 3660

Mahindra launched the updated Scorpio last month with a more powerful engine option. The updated Scorpio also gets a new grille, but everything else remains the same. The higher variants of the SUV is powered by a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that produces a maximum of 140 Bhp – 320 Nm. The lower variants are powered by the same engine, but the maximum output is 120 Bhp – 280 Nm. There is also a 2.5-litre engine that produces a maximum of 75 Bhp – 200 Nm.

Honda WR-V

Units Sold: 3521

Honda launched its first ever sub 4-meter compact SUV based on the Jazz in India, and it has become quite popular. The WR-V is the best selling R-V model in India. It is also the only SUV to offer sunroof in the segment.  It gets 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces a maximum of 80 Bhp – 110 Nm. The 1.5-litre diesel is also available with the WR-V. It produces a maximum of 99 Bhp – 200 Nm.

Maruti S-Cross

Maruti launched the updated S-Cross that gained more popularity than the model it replaced. The new S-Cross gets design changes like new grille and updated headlamps. It also gets a mild hybrid system and is now available with only one 1.3-litre diesel engine. It produces a maximum of 89 Bhp – 200 Nm.

Jeep Compass

Units sold: 2828

Jeep most affordable offering in India has become quite popular in the market. The Jeep branding plus an affordable price tag has worked in Jeep’s favour. The Compass is powered by both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol engine is a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine that produces a maximum of 160 Bhp – 250 Nm. a diesel engine is a 2.0-litre unit that produces a maximum of 170 Bhp – 350 Nm. It gets 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission as an option with the petrol model. The diesel engine only gets 6-speed manual transmission while there is 4X4 as an option.

Toyota Fortuner

Units sold: 2271

The Fortuner is the best selling SUV in the segment in India the competition comes nowhere near regarding sales. The Fortuner is available with two engine options. There is a 2.7-litre petrol that produces a maximum of 164 Bhp – 245 Nm. The diesel variant is a 2.8-litre engine that produces a maximum of 174 Bhp – 450 Nm. Both the engine options get automatic transmission option, but only the diesel variant gets the 4X4 option.
