The Alto is the cheapest vehicle from the stable of Maruti Suzuki and was the most sold vehicle of 2021. It is also one of the most reliable and the most selling vehicle of Jan-21. Maruti Suzuki sold 18,260 units. It seems like a very good number, but when compared to the Jan-20 the sales are down by 3 percent because last year Maruti Suzuki sold 18,914 units. Currently, it is available in three variants namely Std, LXi and VXi. Maruti Suzuki offers the Alto with a three-cylinder, 800 cc petrol engine that produces 48 PS of max power and 69 Nm of peak torque. It is only offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox. There is also a factory-fitted powertrain available known as S-CNG with the LXi variant. Maruti Suzuki Alto starts from Rs. 2.99 lakhs ex-showroom.

However, in Jan-20 the sales number was 19,981 which means that the sales have fallen by 14 percent. The Swift is currently in its third-generation and is offered only with one petrol engine. The 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine produces 83 PS of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. It is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. The third best selling car of 2021 is the WagonR. It has been a practical and spacious choice for people who are on a budget. Maruti Suzuki sold 17,165 units of WagonR which is an increase of 13 percent over 15,232 units in Jan-20. The tall boy hatchback is now offered with two engine options. There is a 1.0-litre petrol engine that produces 68 PS and 90 Nm whereas the 1.2-litre petrol engine produces 83 PS and 113 Nm. Both the engines are offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. The 1.0-litre engine is also offered with a factory-fitted CNG which puts out 60 PS and 78 Nm. Maruti Suzuki WagonR starts from Rs. 4.65 lakhs ex-showroom.

Baleno

The Baleno is the most popular and the best selling premium hatchback. It is the fourth best selling vehicle in India. In Jan-21 it managed to sell 16,648 units which seems like a good number, but in Jan-20 it sold 20,485 units. That is a decrease of 19 percent in sales. Baleno is currently offered with two petrol engine options. There is a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 83 PS and 113 Nm, which comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic gearbox. Then there is the DualJet 1.2-litre petrol engine that puts out 90 PS and 113 Nm. The DualJet engine comes with mild-hybrid technology that helps in increasing technology. The Dzire is the best selling compact sedan of India since its launch. Maruti Suzuki sold 22,406 units in Jan-20 but this year it sold 15,125 units in January. This is a decrease of 32 percent. One of the major reasons behind this is that the demand for compact-SUVs is increasing constantly. However, the Dzire did get a facelift last year, which brought in a new petrol engine. It now comes with a 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine which is also doing duty on the Baleno. The engine produces 90 PS and 113 Nm and is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT.
