India’s motorcycle scene has mostly been obsessed with fuel efficiency. But in the past few years, a slew of performance bikes have been launched, much to the delight of thrill-seekers left in the dark after the loss of two-stroke performers. Cartoq takes a look at these performance motorcycles under Rs. 3 lakh and lists out the quickest between 0-100km/h.
1. KTM 390 Duke
Price: 390 Duke – Rs. 2.40 lakh
0-100 km/h – 5.68 seconds
In 2017, KTM launched the latest generation of the 390 Duke naked motorcycle a few months after it was unveiled at EICMA 2016. The new-gen KTM 390 Duke is powered by a fuel-injected 373-cc, liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine producing 43bhp and 37Nm of torque. The KTM 390 Duke is the most powerful bike currently on sale in India under Rs. 3 lakhs in its segment. The bike can sprint to 100km/h from standstill in just 5.68 seconds.
Despite the obsession with speed, the KTM 390 Duke gets a TFT display with smartphone connectivity to help make everyday rides a bit easier.
2. KTM RC 390
Price – Rs. 2.36 lakh
0-100 km/h – 5.68 seconds
The KTM RC 390 is the fully faired version of the 390 Duke, and it is as fast as its naked sibling. The RC 390 gets a full body fairing but misses out on the TFT display and despite being mechanically the same is a more track-focused bike compared to the Duke.
3. Kawasaki Ninja 300
Price: Rs. 2.98 lakhs
0-100km/h – 6.73 seconds
The Kawasaki Ninja 300 is perhaps the only twin-cylinder motorcycle currently on sale in India under Rs. 3 lakhs. The Ninja 300 is powered by a 296-cc, parallel twin engine producing 38.4bhp and 27 Nm of torque, which allows the Ninja to propel itself from 0-100km/h in just 6.73 seconds.
4. TVS Apache RR 310
Price: Rs. 2.05 lakh
0-100 km/h – 7.17 seconds
The TVS Apache RR 310 is the flagship motorcycle from TVS and it’s the first fully faired bike to bear the Apache name. The entry-level sports bike is powered by a 313-cc single-cylinder engine producing 33 bhp and 27.3 Nm of torque. The RR 310 gets a host of features to give it an edge over its rivals. The TVS Apache is the first bike to hit the roads as a part of BMW’s joint venture with TVS Motocorp.
5. Bajaj Dominar 400
Price starts at Rs. 1.44 lakh
0-100 km/h – 8.3 seconds
The Bajaj Dominar 400 is the Indian motorcycle manufacturer’s take on what it calls a ‘sports cruiser’. With the Dominar 400, Bajaj is targeting Royal Enfield’s retro cruisers. The Dominar 400 is powered by Bajaj’s version of the KTM 390 Duke’s 373-cc engine, which is detuned to produce 35 bhp and 35 Nm of torque. Despite the dip in power, the Dominar 400 is still a quick bike with a 0-100km/h time of 8.3 seconds.
6. KTM 250 Duke
Price: Rs. 1.78 lakh
0-100 km/h: 8.71 seconds
The KTM 250 Duke is the halfway house between the ballistic 390 Duke and the slightly saner 200 Duke. While its styling does remind you of the 390, the instrumentation is taken directly from the smaller 200. The 250 Duke by KTM is powered by a 248.8-cc liquid-cooled single cylinder engine producing 29.8 bhp and 24 Nm of torque, which is enough to propel it from 0-100km/h in 8.71 seconds.
7. Honda CBR 250
Price starts at Rs. 1.64 lakh
0-100 km/h: 9.17 seconds
The Honda CBR 250R was discontinued for a period of time following the implementation of BS-IV emission norms. However, Honda later bought the faired bike back to India with a revised version of the 249.6-cc engine, which now features fuel injection. The engine generates 26.2 bhp and 22.9 NM of torque, which is enough to allow the CBR 250R to sprint to 100km/h from standstill in 9.17 seconds. The CBR 250R gets a 6-speed transmission and features a full LED headlamp set-up.
8. KTM 200 Duke
Price Starts from Rs. 1.50 lakh
0-100km/h: 9.31 seconds
The KTM 200 Duke is the entry-level bike from the Austrian automaker’s line-up of bikes in India. Like the 290 Duke, the new 200 Duke was introduced in the first half of 2017. The KTM 200 Duke is powered by a 199.5-cc engine producing 24.7 bhp and 19.2 Nm of torque, which is enough to propel this naked bike from 0-100 in 9.31 seconds. An under-10 second time for Rs. 1.5 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) makes the 200 Duke, the perfect bike for thrillseekers on a budget.
9. KTM RC 200
Prices Start from Rs. 1.73 lakhs
0-100 km/h – 9.31 seconds
The RC 200 is the fully faired version of the 200 Duke and despite its fully faired body, the RC 200 boasts of an identical 0-100 time of 9.31 seconds. The RC 200 is the perfect bike for those who want to look the part of a racer on their entry-level KTMs.
10. Mahindra Mojo
Price starts at Rs. 1.72 lakh
0-100 km/h: 9.48 seconds
The Mahindra Mojo is the Indian automaker’s flagship offering for the Indian market. The Mojo is a touring bike with oodles of oomph thanks to a potent 295-cc single-cylinder engine that produces 27 bhp and 30 Nm of torque. Complementing the power on offer are dual exhausts, Pirelli tyres and anti-lock brakes. The Mahindra Mojo has a 0-100km/h sprint time of 9.48 seconds.
