India’s FASTEST affordable cars & SUVs: Hyundai Creta to new Maruti Swift

There are acceleration (pick-up) lovers who love all kind of cars in the market. There are various different segments of cars available in India. But, which ones are the quickest in each segment? We bring the fastest accelerating vehicle from each segment in India.

Renault Kwid 1.0

The Renault Kwid is the best selling vehicle from Renault in India. The lightweight hatchback is known for its SUV-ish looks and top class features. Kwid 1.0-litre is also quickest in the segment. The car can do 0-100 km/h in 14.33 seconds, making it quicker than the Alto K10 that can reach the three digit speed in 15.87 seconds.

The Kwid 1.0-litre is powered by a three-cylinder petrol engine that generates a maximum of 67 Bhp and 91 Nm torque. The lightweight car has a brilliant power-to-weight ratio making it the quickest in the segment.

All-new Swift

Maruti will launch the all-new Swift early next month. However, the car’s details are all known. The new Swift is powered by 1.2-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engine same as the earlier version of the car. Due to its lighter weight than the previous version, the performance has received a big boost. The petrol powered manual Swift can do 0-100 km/h in 12.6 seconds.

Volkswagen Ameo

Volkswagen Ameo quite a powerful car in the segment. The India-specific compact sedan gets both the petrol and diesel engine options. The diesel version of the Ameo is powered by a 1.5-litre engine that generates 108 Bhp and 250 Nm. The Ameo diesel can do 0-100 km/h in 10.74 seconds, which makes it even quicker than the Ford Figo Aspire.

Abarth Punto

The Abarth Punto is the fastest affordable hatchback in India. The Abarth Punto was one of the first hot hatchbacks in the market. It is also the most powerful hatchbacks in the segment. It is powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates a maximum of 145 Bhp – 212 Nm. The engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox. The Abarth Punto is quite quick and can reach a top speed of 190 km/h. It can do 0-100 km/h in 8.8 seconds, which is quite quick for a car below Rs. 10 lakh.

Honda City

Honda City petrol has always been a vehicle that enthusiasts loved. Even though the City is powered by both the petrol and diesel engine options, the petrol engine is much more loved by the people who love to drive. The City petrol is powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine that generates a maximum power of 117 Bhp and peak torque of 145 Nm. The City petrol manual can do 0-100 km/h in 10.13 seconds, making it quickest in the segment.

Ford EcoSport

The Ford EcoSport was the first successful sub 4-meter compact SUV in India. Among all the cars available in the segment, the EcoSport is known to be preferred by the enthusiasts. Ford launched the facelifted EcoSport last year with a new 1.5-litre Dragon petrol engine that replaces the old four-cylinder powerhouse. The 1.5-litre Dragon engine produces a maximum power of 121 Bhp and peak torque of 150 Nm. The petrol manual EcoSport can do 0-100 km/h run in 10.91 seconds, which makes it the quickest in the segment.

Hyundai Creta

Hyundai Creta became the best selling vehicle in the segment, thanks to its powerful engine options and a feature-rich cabin. The Creta is loved for its performance by many. Creta is offered with three engine options – 1.4-litre diesel, 1.6-litre diesel and 1.4-litre petrol. The 1.6-litre diesel engine is the quickest among all. It is a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine that gets variable geometry turbocharger (VGT). It produces a maximum of 126 Bhp and 265 Nm. The manual version of the diesel 1.6-litre version can do 0-100 km/h in 10.81 seconds.

Skoda Octavia

Even though Skoda offers a vRS version of the Octavia in the market, we are keeping the cars below Rs. 20 lakh on this list. The Octavia is an enthusiast’s first choice when it comes to the segment. The car offers impeccable handling and unmatched performance. The regular Octavia offers three engine options, 1.4-litre turbo-petrol, 1.8-litre turbo-petrol and 2.0-litre turbo-diesel. The 1.8-litre turbocharged engine is the quickest and it produces a maximum of 177 Bhp – 250 Nm. The engine option is only available with a 7-speed DSG and it can do 0-100 km/h in 8.01 seconds.

Hyundai Tucson

The Tucson is the quickest SUV below Rs. 20 lakh in India. The Tucson re-entered the Indian market earlier this year and currently available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The diesel Tucson is quite quick. It is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that generates a maximum of 182 Bhp – 400 Nm. It is available with both 6-speed manual and an automatic option but the manual version of the vehicle can do 0-100 km/h in just 9.4 seconds.
