India’s FASTEST budget diesel hatchback: Maruti Swift vs Ford Figo vs Hyundai Grand i10 vs VW Polo vs Tata Tiago

There is a common notion among car buyers that diesel cars are slow. But the torque-heavy, low-end output of the diesel cars makes them fun to drive. Modern diesel cars have also become quite fast. While there are many quick diesel machines in the market, we bring you a comparison between the affordable diesel hatchbacks and details of the fastest among them.

Maruti Swift 1.3 MT

Maruti launched the new Swift in India earlier this year. The car gets an all-new platform and many new additions that make it better than the older model in every way. The new Swift carries the same old 1.3-litre four-cylinder multijet diesel engine.

The engine churns out a maximum power of 74 Bhp and 190 Nm of peak torque. While the power output remains similar to the previous generation Swift, the weight loss of up to 90 kg makes the Swift diesel go faster while returning more fuel efficiency. The car also gets AMT automatic transmission as an option.

Ford Figo 1.5 MT

The Ford Figo diesel is one of the most powerful hatchbacks in its segment. Ford cars are very popular among enthusiasts for their sharp handling capabilities and driving dynamics. The Figo is no different.

The Figo diesel is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine that churns out a maximum power of 99 Bhp and peak torque of 215 Nm. It gets a five-speed transmission but the automatic is not available even as an option.

Hyundai Grand i10 1.1 MT

The Hyundai Grand i10 is quite popular in its segment due to its rear space and other features. The Grand i10 has been around for a long time now. Hyundai launched the new Grand i10 last year with minor changes to the exterior and the interiors.

The Grand i10 diesel is powered by a 1.2-litre diesel engine that produces a maximum power of 81.86 Bhp and peak torque of 113.75 Nm. The Grand i10 diesel is only available with a manual 5-speed transmission.

Volkswagen Polo 1.5 MT

The Volkswagen Polo is the choice of enthusiasts because of its solid build quality and sharp handling. Volkswagen Polo is quite a popular car around the world. In India, the car is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine that produces a maximum power of 89 Bhp and 230 Nm. The Volkswagen Polo does not offer a high level of equipment but it is the car’s driving dynamics that make it popular. The Polo diesel is also available in a hot hatch GT version same as the petrol variant.

Tata Tiago 1.05 MT

Diesel variant price starts at Rs. 4.23 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi

The Tata Tiago here gets the smallest displacement engine. The car has become quite popular in the segment because it offers value for money and features. The Tiago is a good looking car and gets both petrol and diesel engine options. The diesel engine powering the Tiago is a 1.05-litre three-cylinder unit that churns out a maximum power of 69 Bhp and 140 Nm. It only gets a 5-speed manual transmission.
