The Mahindra Thar lifestyle off-roader is currently one of the newest and most popular SUVs in India. This SUV is loved for its off-road capabilities and its presence on the roads. Since its launch, many people have modified it to fit their own tastes, but in a recent video, we witness something that has never been done to a newer generation of the Mahindra Thar. In this video, the presenter gives a detailed walkaround of what he claims to be India’s first-ever bulletproof new Mahindra Thar.
The video of this bulletproof Mahindra Thar has been shared on Mihir Galat’s YouTube channel. This YouTuber is known for bringing some of the most uniquely modified cars from North India, and this one is surely one of the very first of its kind. The video starts with an introduction of the bulletproof Mahindra Thar and its owner. The vlogger then asks his first question: Is it really the first bulletproof Mahindra Thar in the country? To which the owner replies that, until now, he has not heard of any new Thar which is bulletproof. He mentions that there are some older Thars that are bulletproof, but there is not another one in the country of the new generation that has been made bulletproof.

Moving on, the vlogger then mentions that from the outside, nobody can tell that this particular Mahindra Thar is bulletproof. The owner of the vehicle then states that they wanted the car to be discreet, so that no one knows about its protection capabilities. The owner then shows the front door of the car, and we can notice that it’s extremely thick. In the video, he then bangs on the window of the front door to show that it’s a bulletproof glass. Following this, the presenter then moves to the back and shows the rear of the car.
The owner mentions that the front doors are bulletproof, but the rear doors and glasses are not bulletproof. Instead, there is a smaller chamber or box-like structure that is bulletproof. He mentions that the front doors have bulletproof ballistic metal between the outer body and the inner body structure. But for the rear seat portion, the entire rear hatch has its own casing. The occupants sitting in the rear will also be safe, and the entire car is protected. It can be imagined as sitting inside an enclosed room, as mentioned by the owner of this particular Thar.
Following this, the presenter then asks the owner of the vehicle about the cost of getting this Mahindra Thar bulletproof. To this, the owner replies that it cost them a total of around Rs 10-12 lakh for this entire job on top of the Rs 18 lakh that it cost them to acquire the car. He added that they bought the car and sent it to a bulletproof facility, which converted it into a bulletproof vehicle. He added that the car will soon be getting approval from the government as well because bulletproofing a car requires special permissions, and owners have to explain why they need their vehicles to be bulletproof.
After this, the presenter drives the car and mentions that it feels extremely heavy, and it seems like the rear box is moving when the brakes are applied. The owner and presenter then talk about the fuel economy of the car, and the owner mentions that despite the extra 900 kgs of weight, the car still manages to provide a mileage of around 13-14 kmpl.
