Tata is one of the most popular car manufacturer in India. Tata is known for making rugged looking and well built models for Indian customers. Tata Nexon which is a compact SUV is a popular model in its segment and has been in the market for years now. It is one of the safest SUVs in the segment and comes with both petrol and diesel engine options. Both these engine options come with manual and AMT gearbox option as well. We have seen several examples of modified Tata Nexon SUVs online but, here we have a Nexon which is probably India’s first to get an aftermarket iMT or Auto clutch system.
The video has been uploaded by Nitin Grover Skycar on their YouTube channel. In this video, vlogger explains an aftermarket auto clutch system that has been installed on a Tata Nexon diesel manual SUV. The vlogger explained the system in the video. The physical clutch pedal in the Tata Nexon diesel gets an attachment. This attachment is connected to a chain which is connected to a motor. A sensor is installed on the gear lever of the car that sends signal to engage the clutch whenever the driver keeps his hand on the gear lever.

The system uses motor and a controller which is kept under the driver seat. The vlogger along with the owner of this Nexon SUV go out on a drive to show how the system works. When the driver keeps his hand on the gear lever the clutch gets engaged automatically and the driver can shift to a higher gear or shift down. The owner of this SUV belongs to Rajasthan and he can be heard saying in the video that he had installed this system 3-4 months ago and has already covered 4000 km after installing the system.
The owner who is a doctor by profession mentions that ever since he has installed this system he has been using it as an automatic car only. Just like an iMT gearbox, he can choose the gear manually without worrying about pressing the clutch. The system works seamlessly and the owner has driven the SUV both in city and on highways. The system also helps in driving the car more efficiently as the clutch is controlled by the motor electronically. The owner mentions that he spent almost Rs 50,000 for installing the iMT system. He did not go for the diesel AMT version mainly because of the price difference. This auto clutch system can be turned off when not needed and the car can be used like a regular manual vehicle. There are modes in the programmer to control the level of clutch in the car.
This is a system that is not specifically made for Tata Nexon. It is a universal kit and it can be installed on any manual car. There is no need to cut any of the existing wires in the car. Tata Nexon is available with a 1.2 litre turbo petrol and a 1.5 litre turbo diesel engine options. Both petrol and diesel engine options are available with a manual and an AMT gearbox option.
