India’s most powerful Volkswagen GTI makes BMWs & Audis seem SLOW

You must have heard about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. If not, they were both fictional character penned by R.L. Stevenson. Dr. Jekyll was a good gentleman but Mr. Hyde was his other, evil personality. Now the reason for this literature lesson is that today we are taking you to meet Mr. Hyde, i.e., the Polo GTI.

If the regular Polo or the Polo GT TSI is Dr. Jekyll, this modified GTI thing for sure is Mr. Hyde. It is owned by Danish Patel, and happens to be the fastest GTI in India.

How? Let’s talk some stats.

The stock Polo GTI comes with a 1.8-litre turbocharged engine which sends about 190 Bhp of power (yeah!) and 250 Nm of torque to the front wheels. The engine is mated to a quick shifting 7-speed DSG gearbox. Still didn’t get it, eh? Lets put things into perspective by doing some maths.

The most expensive variant of the Audi A4 (35 TDI Technology) packs in a 2 litre diesel engine churning out 188 Bhp of power and 400 Nm of torque and is priced at Rs. 46.94 Lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). On the other hand, the most expensive BMW 3 series (330i M Sport Shadow Edition) packs in a 2 litre petrol engine churning out 248 Bhp of power and 350 Nm of torque. It retails at a price of Rs. 47.30 Lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Both cars tip the scale at 1450 kg and 1595 kg respectively. The 190 Bhp powered Polo GTI is already more powerful than the A4 and though it develops less power than the beemer, a weight difference of nearly 322 kg makes up for that easily (GTI weighs 1273 kg). And all this while we are not considering the modified GTI’s figures.

Coming back to the car in hand, like with all other enthusiast cars, many owners and petrolheads are tuning their GTIs as well. This three door monster (well, not by size) has got an IS20 Turbo Upgrade which sends more air to the engine working together with an Airtec Motorsport intercooler.

Apart from this, the engine has a Stage 2+ eTuners Motorsport performance and TCU tune which makes the engine more powerful and the gearbox ready to handle that kind of power levels without breaking a sweat. The stock spark plugs have been replaced with Denso units so as to avoid engine misfiring.

To control all the additional power, the car had to be fitted with upgraded EBC Yellowstuff brake pads. And lastly, the GTI has been straight piped with a cat and resonator delete which brings out a more natural sound note of the engine and also helps the engine breathe better, enhancing the performance.

It has been stanced and is fitted with Eibach Pro-Kit lowering springs which are hidden behind beautiful 17” Momo Massimo Rims. The tyres shod on those beautiful rims are 225/45 section Michelin Pilot Sport 4 which are one of the best road tyres out there. The car originally came painted in red but is now draped in a beautiful satin black shade wrap with gold highlights, making the car look much more imposing.

Now coming to the Mr. Hyde part, this rocket of a GTI now makes 280 Bhp and 400 Nm of torque at the wheel. Gaping, you should, even we had the same reaction. 280 Bhp/400 Nm on a car weighing less than 1,300 kg is complete bonkers. One hell of a car then.
