We’re weeks away from the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross crossover’s launch in India, and the crossover has already been showcased to a global audience at the International Indian Film Awards (IIFA) 2015, recently held at Malaysia. The S-Cross gains a flurry of changes to suit Indian tastes. In terms of styling, the front of the crossover gains a twin slat grille with a splattering of chrome. The chrome job makes it to the fog lamp surrounds as well. Other global cues remain unchanged though.
The projector headlamps with daytime running LEDs, skid plates on the front and rear bumpers, roof rails and alloy wheels will accompany the top end variant of the crossover. The piece de resistance on the S-Cross will be the 1.6 liter Fiat Multijet turbo diesel engine, which will be the most powerful unit in its segment, with outputs of 120 Bhp-320 Nm. A six speed manual transmission is likely to accompany this motor. The crossover is also likely to be sold with a 1.3 liter Multijet motor powering its lower, cut price variants.
On the inside, the S-Cross will be feature heavy. The interiors are likely to be appointed luxuriously, in keeping with the premium push that Maruti Suzuki is giving its vehicles that are priced close to the 10 lakh rupee mark. Dual zone climate control will be a best-in-class feature. Cruise control, a touch screen infotainment interface, airbags and ABS+EBD will be standard fare on the top-end variants. The S-Cross will be aimed at those who want a 5 seat crossover for urban and highway use.
In terms of looks, the S-Cross seems like a glorified hatchback on stilts and this could dissuade many an SUV buyer who’s looking for more butch looks. In terms of ground clearance too, there’s nothing substantial to speak about. The crossover will represent Maruti Suzuki’s first stab at the compact SUV segment, a space that’s booming in India. However, the possbility of the S-Cross struggling to find traction remains pregnant. Here are a few reasons on why the latest Maruti Suzuki car launch may not take off as expected.
