Instagram influencer hammers Land Rover Defender bonnet to ‘test’ build quality [Video]

Land Rover SUVs have built up a reputation as premium, luxury SUVs which have rugged build quality at the same time. While all the SUVs from Land Rover have a supremely luxurious aura in and out, the SUVs are also known for showcasing build quality tough as nails. The off-road champion from Land Rover, the Defender, is one such SUV, and to test its build quality, an influencer has chosen a rather unique method.

In a YouTube video from NamasCAR Motors, we can see a person testing the build quality of the bonnet of a Land Rover Defender using a hammer and a screwdriver. In the video, the person is seen hitting the top of a screwdriver against the surface of the bonnet using a hammer. After a few hits, the person manages to scrape the surface of the bonnet, as we can see the upper coating of the bonnet is chipped away. Using the screwdriver as a nail, the person tries to penetrate its tip inside the bonnet.

Even after the person scrapes the surface of the bonnet around the point of impact, the person continues to hit the screwdriver with the hammer, until a hole is created at the point of hitting. After this hole is created, the person doesn’t stop this foolish act of testing the build quality of the bonnet and chooses another spot on the bonnet to follow the same procedure.

Towards the end of the video, we can see that a similar impact on the new spot is created, using the same method of hitting the top of a screwdriver against the surface of the bonnet using a hammer.

Testing building quality

This unique method of ‘testing’ the build quality seems to be a foolish and a non-recommendable act by the person seen in the video. From the first impression, it looks like the person did this act to gain a few likes and fame on social media. However, following such a destructible method has only added to the unwanted expenses of repairing the bonnet back to its original condition.

While the person might have done this act from the perspective of entertaining or gaining fame, following such acts should not be taken seriously. There are certain systematic procedures to test the build quality and safety levels of a car, an example of which is the crash tests conducted by Global NCAP. In those systematic tests, certain procedures and simulations are followed keeping real-life situations in consideration.

The Land Rover Defender has scored a perfect 5-star rating in the Euro NCAP, which is regarded as one of the strictest crash tests. The all-new SUV scored 85% for adult safety, 85% for child safety, 71% for vulnerable road users and 79% for safety assistance. The new Defender has become quite popular around the world and there are many Indian celebrities who own the SUV.
