Last year, Jaguar launched their entry level sedan, the XE in the Indian market. At the time of launch, the company only offered the XE in petrol guise, with a 2.0 liter turbo petrol engine in two states of tune. Finally, the company has launched a new diesel engine on the XE.
The XE diesel will be on offer in 3 trim levels, the base Pure which is priced at Rs 38.25 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi. The vehicle will also be on offer in Prestige and Portfolio trim lines, however pricing hasn’t been released for the same yet.
The XE diesel is powered by a 2.0 liter Ingenium diesel engine making 180 Bhp and 430 Nm. This is the same diesel engine on the F-Pace and the XF sedan. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
In terms of features, the XE comes well loaded. Even the base model gets cruise control, rain sensing wipers, power folding mirrors with auto dimming, electrically adjustable front driver’s seat (10-way), rear parking sensor, 8″ touch screen system for infotainment, navigation and bluetooth/USB/Aux capability.
Rohit Suri, Managing Director, Jaguar Land Rover India Ltd. (JLRIL), said:
“The XE has been a very successful model from the Jaguar family and with the Jaguar XE diesel, we are confident of further expanding our customer base in the country.”
The XE competes with the likes of the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C Class, Volvo S60 and the Audi A4. All of them now offer both petrol and diesel variants. While we are yet to drive the diesel XE, if the petrol is anything to go by, we are sure that the new XE will be dynamically rewarding to drive.
Jaguar had a tough time early last year when the NGT had called a ban on diesel engines above 2.0 liter being sold. Thus they decided to bring the 2.0 liter Ingenium engine.
