Jawa 300: First spyshots reveal the Royal Enfield-rivaling retro motorcycle

Mahindra will soon unveil the Jawa 300, a retro-motorcycle aimed squarely at Royal Enfield’s Classic range. Here are  the first spyshots that reveal what one of the upcoming 3 new retro motorcycles from Jawa will look like.

As the spyshots indicate, the Jawa 300 motorcycle takes an out and out retro theme, staying true to the Jawa and  Yezdi motorcycles that were sold in India between the 1970s and the late 1990s. While the new motorcycle gets a four stroke, 293cc engine, it retains the signature twin exhaust design that Yezdis and Jawas were famous for. And we expect both these exhausts to be functional, just like they are in the Mahindra Mojo.

The motorcycle will be powered by the 293cc, single cylinder four stroke engine that gets fuel injection and liquid  cooling. This motor, which is likely to be the same unit that powers the Mahindra Mojo but with retro styling, is  expected to produce 27 Bhp of peak power and 28 Nm of peak torque on the Jawa 300. A 5 speed manual gearbox is likely to accompany this motor.

The spyshots also reveal that the Jawa 300 will get a disc brake on the front wheel and a drum brake on the rear  wheel, which also hints at a single channel ABS system. The wheels, true to the motorcycle’s retro design, are  spoked, and considering the price point at which the bike will sell at, is likely to use tube-type tyres – just like  all Royal Enfields.

Other retro bits spotted on the motorcycle spied include fork gaiters and telescopic front suspension, twin gas  charged rear shock absorbers, a head lamp casquette that harks back to the Jawa design of yore, generous boat style  mudguards at the front and rear, a single seat that truncates just ahead of the tail lamp that sits on the mud guard, and lots of chrome.

Meanwhile, the official unveil of the Jawa 300 will happen on 15th November, 2018, and the motorcycle is expected to go on sale from early next year. Classic Legends is the company that has brought back the Jawa motorcycle brand into India, and Mahindra Two Wheelers is a key partner in this set-up. Initially, 3 motorcycles with the same, 300cc  engine platform but with different designs are expected to be introduced.
