Jawa Perak Bobber motorcycle launch delayed, new timeline revealed

The iconic motorcycle brand Jawa was re-introduced in the Indian market last year. The resurrected Jawa launched two retro motorcycles – Jawa or Jawa Classic and Jawa 42. However, there was another motorcycle at the launch which caught everyone’s attention. It was Jawa’s factory custom bobber Perak.

It was announced at the event that Perak will hit the market at a later time period as their main focus is on the other two motorcycles. Earlier it was expected to be launched around June this year. It is now revealed that the launch of Jawa Perak will be delayed.

As per the new timeline, Jawa Perak is expected to be launched towards the end of 2019. The Perak, uses a big bore version of the standard 293 cc Jawa motor, displacing 334 cc. The bigger engine makes 30 Bhp of power along with 31 Nm of torque. The engine gets a 6 speed manual gearbox as standard.

Both the 293 cc and 334 cc motors of the Jawa motorcycles are based on the Mahindra Mojo’s 295 cc, single cylinder engine. However, the Mojo’s engine has been extensively re-engineered to get their distinct character and exhaust note on the Jawa motorcycles it will power.

Coming to the key differences between the Jawa and the Perak, the latter uses a monoshock set up at the rear, for achieving the distinct Bobber look. The other bikes get twin gas charged rear shock absorbers. The front end remains similar, with telescopic forks.

The Jawa Classic and 42 motorcycles are powered by a short stroke, fuel injected, DOHC 293 cc four stroke engine. This liquid cooled motor churns out 27 Bhp and 28 Nm. The engine is liquid cooled and maximum emphasis has been placed on low end torque.

Keeping the customer demand in mind and upcoming safety norms Jawa had recently introduced dual-channel ABS in the Jawa classic and Jawa 42. The standard, rear drum-brake version of the Jawa is priced at Rs. 1.64 lakh and the Jawa Forty-Two is priced at Rs. 1.55 lakhs, both price ex-showroom. The rear disc and dual-channel ABS version of the bikes are priced at Rs. 1.73 lakh and 1.64 lakh respectively.

Price of Jawa Perak was revealed during the launch last year itself. It was priced at Rs 1.89 lakh ex-showroom. However, it remains to be seen if Jawa will launch the bike with same price tag when the company launches it later this year. If Jawa manages to price the Perak at Rs. 1.89 lakhs, the bike will be India’s cheapest Bobber on sale.
