Jeep India will launch a brand new, off-road oriented variant of the hot selling Compass SUV soon. It will be called the TrailHawk, and will be the most expensive Compass variant to be sold here. Jeep dealers are said to have begun taking bookings for the Compass TrailHawk variant even though the automaker has not officially announced bookings for the same. The booking amount is Rs. 50,000. The Compass TrailHawk is expected to be about Rs. 2.5 lakhs costlier than the top-end Diesel Limited 4X4 variant of the SUV. This means an ex-showroom price tag of around Rs. 24.5 lakhs for the Compass TrailHawk. On-road price of the new variant could be about 29 lakhs.
The Compass TrailHawk will be available only in a diesel-automatic drivetrain combination. It’ll be powered by the 2 liter turbocharged diesel engine that produces a peak power of 170 Bhp and a peak torque of 350 Nm. A 9 speed torque converter automatic gearbox sourced from ZF will be standard on the SUV, which will also get an all wheel drive system with multiple terrain modes including two key new features: a low ratio and a Rock mode. The ground clearance will also increase to 198 mm, from the regular Compass’ 178 mm. Approach, departure and breakover angles will also increase thanks to new bumpers. Water wading depth increases to 480 mm, 75 mm higher than the regular version.
The Compass TrailHawk will also get tow hooks integrated into its bumpers. Another change is suspension, which will be beefed up for off road use. This will allow the vehicle to have better articulation as well, another crucial bit for off-roading. The interiors will get an all-black finish with contrast red stitching for added sportiness. The Compass TrailHawk is already being manufactured in India, but only for export markets. By the middle of this year, Jeep will start offering this range-topping variant in India as well. If you’re an avid off-roader and are interested in the Compass, the TrailHawk versionis what will excite you.
