Jeep Compass launched, starting price well below top-end XUV500

Jeep has just launched its most important product in the Indian market, the Compass SUV. Here is everything you need to know about it:

Petrol: Sport: Rs 14.95 lakh, Limited (A): Rs 18.70 lakh, Limited (A) (O): Rs 19.40 lakh.

Diesel: Sport: Rs 15.45 lakh, Longitude: Rs 16.45 lakh, Longitude option : Rs 17.25 lakh, Limited: Rs 18.05 lakh, Limited (O): Rs 18.75 lakh, Limited 4×4: Rs 19.95 lakh,  Limited (O) 4×4 : Rs 20.65 lakh.

All prices reflect ex-showroom Delhi figures.

Let us start off with the engines on offer first. The Compass will be on offer with either a 1.4 liter turbo petrol engine or a 2.0 liter turbo diesel engine. While the petrol produces 160 Bhp and 250 Nm, the diesel produces 170 Bhp and 350 Nm. While the petrol can be had with a 7-speed dual clutch autobox or a 6-speed manual, while the diesel will only be offered with a 6-speed manual initially.

The SUV will come with a 4×4 system with drive select having the following options, Snow, Auto, Mud and Sand. Staying true to the Jeep brand, the vehicle will be capable off-road too. It has a departure angle of 32 degrees and an approach angle of 17 degrees. It has a ground clearance of 178 mm. The 4×4 will only be offered in the diesel version.

The various variants that are on offer now include the base version, the Sport, which will be offered in both the petrol and diesel guise. It will be only offered with the 6-speed manual transmission. It will get the 5″ U connect touch screen infotainment system, 16″ steel wheels, halogen headlamps, all black interiors, electric folding mirrors, electric park brake, all 4 disc brakes, ABS, EBD, TCS as well as dual airbags up front.

Next in line is the Longitude, which will be only offered with the 2.0 liter diesel engine. In addition to the Sport trim, it will have front and rear fog lamps, beige and black interiors, 17″ alloys, keyless-go and push button start, as well as rear parking sensors.

The Longitude (O) version will also be on offer only in diesel. This will have a 7″ U Connect touch screen system that is compatible with Apple Carplay and Android auto. It will also have dual zone climate control and projector headlamps, in addition to black roof rails.

The Limited can be had in both petrol and diesel variants. Features include LED tail lamps, rear camera, leather seats, leather steering wheel, Selec-Terrain with 4×4, AWD transmission (4×4), front side and curtain airbags (4×4). It will have grey interiors.

The top spec Limited (O) will have HID headlamps and a black roof.

The Compass can be had in a total of 5 colours. It will be on offer in Exotica red, Brilliant black, Minimal grey, Hydro blue and Vocal white. It will be offered with a 3 year/1,00,00 km warranty with a service interval of 15,000 km. Deliveries of the diesel will start first, and that of the petrol will only start during the festive season.
