We’re just weeks away from the official launch of the Jeep brand in India. The American SUV brand, now owned by the Fiat group, will kickstart its Indian innings with the Wrangler, Grand Cherokee and SRT models. Tech specs and variant details have just been revealed. All 3 vehicles will be completely built units (CBUs), imported from the US.
Wrangler Unlimited

The Wrangler Unlimited is a 5 door, premium off roader, one that will be more comfortable than the likes of the Gypsies and Thars but much cheaper than the Mercedes Benz G63 AMG. The Wrangler sold here will use a 2.8 liter, 4 cylinder turbo diesel engine with about 197 Bhp-460 Nm on tap. It’ll be launched in a single, fully loaded variant.
A part time four wheel drive system and a 5 speed automatic gearbox will be standard. In terms of safety features, the Wrangler gets twin airbags, ABS, ESP, traction control, hill hold and electronic roll mitigation. The Jeep can hit a top speed of about 175 kph while the o-100 Kph run takes about 10 seconds.
Grand Cherokee

The Grand Cherokee is Jeep’s flagship vehicle, a luxury SUV that can seat five and that takes on the likes of the Audi Q7 and the Mercedes Benz GL-Class. The Grand Cherokee sold in India will be available in diesel-only form, with a 3 liter V6 turbo diesel motor (240 Bhp-570 Nm) powering it. An 8 speed automatic gearbox will be standard fare.
The Grand Cherokee will be sold in Limited and Summit trims, both of them featuring a standard four wheel drive layout. In terms of safety features, Airbags including a knee airbag for the driver, ABS, traction control, cruise control, ESP, electronic limited slip differential, parking assist, hill start and descent control and parking sensors with camera will be standard.
Grand Cherokee SRT
Estimated price: 1.1 crores
The SRT monikered Grand Cherokee is a high performance version of this SUV. Think of SRT as the AMG of the Jeep world. The Grand Cherokee in this trim will get a 6.4 liter HEMI supercharged petrol motor that puts out 475 Bhp-640 Nm. The 8 speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters and an all wheel drive system will be standard.
In additional to the features on the top-end Grand Cherokee, the SRT will feature launch control and a track mode. The vehicle sits lower and features suspension tuned for high speed on-road performance. In terms of looks too, the SRT will have many design differentiators to make it stand out from regular Grand Cherokees.
