Kerala’s first Jeep Wrangler Rubicon has a number plate worth Rs. 6.25 lakh [Video]

Buying a new car in India has always been a special occasion. It is like welcoming a new family member. In Kerala, a young businessman – Dr Praveen bought the first Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and spent a few lakh more to get a special registration number. Here are the details.

Kerala RTO auctions special registration numbers and there are many who participate in the bidding process. Dr Praveen KP from Thrissur spent as much as Rs 6.25 lakh to win the registration number KL-09-BW-0001 for his brand-new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. The auction process was quite fierce and many including the Lulu international group participated in the auction. Dr Praveen KP won against the Lulu Group, who was also bidding to win the special number.

There have been many biddings in the past. A businessman in Kerala owns the most expensive registration number in the country that is worth Rs 31 lakh. He also won the registration number during an auctioning for his brand-new Porsche 718 Boxster.

This is the first Jeep Wrangler Rubicon in Kerala state. Jeep launched the new Wrangler Rubicon earlier this year at Rs 68.94 lakh, ex-showroom, India. Only a single five-door variant of the Rubicon is available in India. The Rubicon is the more capable version of the Wrangler Unlimited SUV and it is designed to tackle extreme off-road conditions.

It is a Completely Built Unit (CBU) and is imported from the USA. During the launch, Jeep announced that there is a lot of demand for the Wrangler Rubicon, which is why the brand launched the SUV in the market. It is the most capable variant of the Wrangler and gets a few changes too. There are also Trail-rated badges on its exterior to make it different from the rest of the variants. It comes powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 265 Bhp and peak torque of 400 Nm. There is an 8-speed automatic transmission with a low-ratio transfer case. It gets a crawl ratio of 77.2:1.

Auctioning of special number plates has become popular in India in recent times. However, not all the RTOs in India do it. There are only a few across the country that put out notifications for special registration numbers and then the highest bidder gets the registration number. It is quite common in foreign countries and is a major source of income for the government. In Dubai, an Indian spent Rs 60 crore to get the number of his choice for his brand-new Rolls Royce sedan.

Meanwhile, those who want a 4X4 SUV but can’t afford the Jeep Wrangler, which is quite pricey, can opt for the newly launched all-new Mahindra Thar. Prices of the all-new Mahindra Thar start from Rs. 9.8 lakh, making it one of the most affordable 4X4 SUVs sold in India. The all-new Mahindra Thar is supremely capable and easily hold its own against the much pricier Wrangler.
