Kia Motors to launch all-new MPV in India

Kia Motors that currently offers three cars in the Indian market will launch new vehicles in the coming times. The Korean manufacturer, which aims to focus only on the SUVs and MPVs for the Indian market in the coming years will launch an all-new MPV to take on the highly successful Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in the future.

According to ACI, the all-new Kia MPV will be based on the same platform as the Seltos. It will be positioned between the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crysta.  So the upcoming vehicle will have dimensions similar to the Mahindra Marazzo. It will be slightly longer than the Seltos. The size of the vehicle will ensure that the cabin has ample room for seven occupants.

While the design of the upcoming vehicle is not known yet, Kia will continue to use its family design on the MPV. The grille will be similar to the Kia Sonet, Seltos and Carnival, which Kia calls as the Tiger Nose grille.

Kia MPV engine options

Kia will offer both petrol and diesel engine options with the upcoming MPV in the Indian market. It will utilise the 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine options that are available with the Kia Seltos in the market. Since it will not be a performance-driven car, the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine is unlikely to be available with the model. Both 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine options generate a maximum of 115 PS. Expect the MPV to offer automatic transmission options with both the engine options.

As for the rivals, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga offers only a petrol engine while the Mahindra Marazzo offers only a 1.5-litre diesel engine. While Mahindra announced that they will launch a turbocharged petrol version of the Marazzo in the coming future, there is no news on the same yet. Kia will have an upper hand if it offers both the engine options with automatic transmission in the segment.

Kia MPV features

Just like all the other Kia cars, the Kia MPV will offer a long list of features. Just like the Sonet and the Seltos, the MPV is likely to get a massive touchscreen unit with UVO connectivity solutions. Alloy wheels, LED DRL, push-button start, cruise control, powered windows, ambient lights, BOSE sound system, sunroof, ventilated front seats, air purifier, 360-degree camera, blind-spot detection and more such features can be expected.

Kia MPV launch

Kia will launch the all-new MPV in the market in 2022 as per the report. While the brand has not started testing the vehicle on the roads yet, it is likely to be far away from becoming the final product. The price of the all-new vehicle is likely to be around Rs 10 lakh for the base variant. It is also not known if the MPV will be developed specifically for the Indian market like the Sonet or it will be a vehicle based on the international models of the manufacturer. Nonetheless, the MPV market is also heating up and we will get to see a lot of new products in the market in the coming times. Kia has no plans of launching a new car in the Indian market next year.
