Like all the other models from Kia, the Carens too be locally manufactured at Kia’s production facility in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. The Carens are a fourth product from Kia since its debut in India in 2019, after Seltos, Carnival and Sonet.

Referred to as ‘Recreational Vehicle (RV)’, the Kia Carens is based on the extended version of the platform of Kia Seltos. It is evident from its longer wheelbase of 2,780mm, which currently is the segment-best and is even longer than that of the current benchmark of MPVs, the Toyota Innova Crysta. The Kia Carens share its engine options with the Seltos. The powertrain lineup includes 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol (115 PS of power and 144 Nm of torque, offered with a 6-speed manual), a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine (140 PS of power and 242 Nm of torque, offered with 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT) and a 1.5-litre diesel (115 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque, offered with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic). Such an expansive price range puts it right in the middle of the huge void present between Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Toyota Innova Crysta. It will make the Kia Carens compete with MPVs like Maruti Suzuki XL6 and Mahindra Marazzo on the lower end and other three-row midsize SUVs like Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari on the higher end.
