Kia is offering a lot of safety equipment as standard with the Carens. You will get 6 airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, rear parking sensors and tyre pressure monitoring system. Moreover, you also get Electronic Stability Control, Anti-Lock Braking System, Hill Assist Control, Downhill Brake Control and Brake Assist System.
Engine options
Kia has officially said that there will be a petrol and diesel engine on offer. We already know that Kia will be using the 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 115 PS of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque. It will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
From a previous spy shot, we already know that Kia will offer the 1.4-litre petrol engine with the Carens. We know this because the test mule had “7DCT” badging. This is the name of the gearbox. It stands for 7-speed dual-clutch and is only offered with the 1.4-litre petrol engine that is turbocharged and comes with direct injection.
This engine produces 140 PS of max power and 242 Nm of peak torque. It is not yet confirmed whether Kia will offer a 6-speed manual gearbox with this engine or not. Having said that, the automatic gearbox will get paddle shifters mounted behind the steering wheel so that the driver can take manual control. As of now, we do not know if Kia will offer a more affordable petrol engine.
Dimensions
Kia Carens has the longest wheelbase in the segment which is quite surprising. The wheelbase measures 2,780 mm and it would be interesting to see how does it translate to cabin space. The ground clearance of the Carens measure 195 mm which is quite high and it should not have any problem in tackling our bad Indian roads. It has a length of 4,540 mm, a width of 1,800 mm and a height of 1,700 mm.
Features
We know that Kia is known to pack in a lot of features with their vehicles. The Carens is no different. Kia has revealed that the Carens will come with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system that will support Android Auto and Apple CarPlt. It will be connected to a sound system from Bose. We are expecting that the lower variants will get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Arkamys sound system. There will be connected car technology, ventilated front seats, 64 colour ambient lighting, air purifier with virus and bacteria protection, digital instrument cluster, multi-function steering wheel, LED headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps and much more.
