Kia Carens MPV spied in the flesh ahead of launch

Kia has unveiled their new vehicle for the Indian market, it is called Carens and it is a MPV but Kia is marketing it as a recreational vehicle. This is the first time that the Carens has been spied without any camouflage. The new images also reveal one of the engines that will be on offer and a new red paint scheme.

In the pictures, we can see a 7DCT badging on the tailgate. This means that there will be a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine on offer. This engine also comes with a direct engine and in the Carens that it has been spotted, the engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It should also come with paddle shifters mounted behind the steering wheel. Moreover, the engine produces 140 PS of max power and 242 Nm of peak torque. As of now, we do not know whether Kia will offer this engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox or not.

The second engine on offer will be the 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 115 PS of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque. It will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

There could also be a more affordable petrol engine on offer which could either be a 1.5-litre, naturally aspirated unit or a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit. The 1.5-litre engine produces 115 PS of max power and 144 Nm of peak torque whereas the 2.0-litre petrol engine produces a maximum power of 152 PS and peak torque of 192 Nm.

Both the engines come with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. The 1.5-litre engine gets a CVT automatic transmission, whereas the 2.0-litre engine gets a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. It is more likely that Kia might use a 1.5-litre unit so that they can price the Carens competitively.
