Kia Carens MPV variant list leaked ahead of launch

Kia will be unveiling their new MPV, Carens on December 16th. Till now not much is known about the new vehicle. Recently, the engine options of Carens were leaked online, but now the name of the variants have also been leaked online. According to Rushlane, Kia will offer Carens in six variants. There will be  L, LX, EX, EX+, TX and TX+.

These variants will be further divided into trims. The L trim will consist of HTP / HTM, LX will have Premium, EX will consist of Prestige, EX+ will have Prestige+, TX will comprise of Luxury and the top-end TX+ variant will have Luxury+. We still do not know what features will these variants offer. Kia is already using such type of variant distribution with their current vehicles.

Engine and gearbox

We also know that Kia will offer the Carens with a petrol engine and a diesel engine. Both of the engines and the gearboxes will be shared with the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta. The petrol engine will be a 1.4-litre unit that will be turbocharged and will feature direct injection.

The engine produces 140 PS of max power and 242 Nm of peak torque. It will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. There will also be driving modes and traction modes on offer. Moreover, the automatic gearbox will also get paddle shifters mounted behind the steering wheel so that the driver can take manual control of the gears.

Then there is the 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 115 PS of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Just like any other Kia vehicle, Carens will also be packed with features. Feature list will include, wireless charger, air purifier, a digital instrument cluster and a multi-function steering wheel. Moreover, there will be USB charging, a 12V charging socket, UVO connected car technology, electric sunroof, automatic climate control, ambient lighting, push-button to start/stop the engine, electro-chromatic rearview mirror, keyless entry and much more.

The higher-end variants would get a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system while the lower variants will get an 8-inch unit. Both infotainment systems will come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There would also be shortcut touch buttons below the infotainment system.

Safety equipment

For safety, there would be an anti-lock braking system, electronic brake distribution, rear parking sensors and emergency stop signal as standard. On the higher variants, there would be reversing camera, traction control, stability control, front parking sensors, hill hold control and Brake Assist.

Price and rivals

Kia will be launching the Carens early next year and unveiling it on 16th December. It is expected to start from Rs. 15 lakhs ex-showroom and go up to Rs. 20 lakhs ex-showroom. There are no direct rivals to the Carens but it will compete with other MPVs like Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Toyota Innova Crysta and Mahindra Marazzo.
