Kia is all set to launch its Carens in the Indian market. The bookings for the new MPV will start on 14th January. Kia has released a new TVC for the Carens in which the manufacturer depicts the features of the upcoming MPV.
The video starts by showing the design of Carens which is quite bold and looks like a SUV. There are LED Daytime Running Lamps in the front which Kia calls Star Map DRLs. A similar design has been carried forward to the rear tail lamps.
Then we see an electric sunroof, ventilated front seats, 64 colour ambient lighting, Bose sound system with 8 speakers, spot lamps, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Kia’s connected car technology, air purifier with virus and bacteria protection and 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.
Kia is offering a lot of safety features as standard with the Carens. It gets 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control, front and rear disc brakes, Vehicle Stability Management, Brake Assist, Downhill Brake Control, Anti-lock Braking System, Rear Parking sensors and tyre pressure monitoring system as standard.
Other noteworthy features include a one-touch electric tumble seat for the second row, 5 USB Type C ports for charging, leather upholstery, roof rails, rear parking camera with dynamic guidelines, keyless entry, push-button to start/stop the engine, digital instrument cluster, multi-function steering wheel, automatic climate control, cruise control, anti-glare rearview mirror, wireless charger with cooling function and rain-sensing wipers.
Kia will be offering the Carens in five variants. There will be Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury and Luxury Plus. Depending on the variant, the interior colour and seat pattern would be different. All the variants except Luxury Plus would be offered as a 7-seater vehicle. Only the top-end Luxury Plus variant would be offered with an option of captain chairs for the second row.
Carens would be offered with three engine options. There would be a 1.5-litre petrol engine, 1.5-litre diesel engine and a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The 1.5-litre petrol engine would come mated to only a 6-speed manual gearbox. The diesel engine would be offered with 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. The turbo petrol engine will be offered with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox with paddle shifters.
The turbo petrol and diesel engine with a manual gearbox will be offered with all the variants. The diesel engine with an automatic gearbox will be offered only with the top-end variant. The 1.5-litre petrol engine will be offered only on the Premium and Prestige variant. The turbo petrol with DCT gearbox will be offered on Prestige Plus and Luxury Plus variant. The turbo petrol engine also gets three drive modes. There is Sports, Normal and Eco.
Prices and Rivals
The prices of the Kia Carens are expected to start from Rs. 15 lakhs ex-showroom and go up to Rs. 20 lakhs ex-showroom. It would compete against Hyundai Alcazar, Toyota Innova Crysta, Mahindra Marazzo, Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus.
