Kia Carens MPV spotted testing ahead of launch

Kia will unveil their new MPV on December 16th. It is called Carens and will get launched sometime next year. There have been plenty of spy shots of the new MPV floating around the internet. Now, we have a new video of Kia Carens.

The video is uploaded on YouTube by Bunny Punia on his YouTube channel. The video was recorded by Yudhbir Singh and the MPV was spotted in Gurugram. It was going through road testing and we can see LED Daytime Running Lamps and Carens was finished in white paint shade. Having said most of the exterior was still camouflaged.

Engine and gearbox

According to leaked media reports, Kia will be offering Carens with petrol and a diesel engine. The petrol engine will be a 1.4-litre unit and the diesel engine will be a 1.5-litre unit. Both engines and gearboxes on offer will be shared with Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta.

The petrol engine will be turbocharged and will also feature direct injection. The engine produces 140 PS of max power and 242 Nm of peak torque. It will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. If you will opt for the automatic transmission then you would also get traction modes, drive modes and paddle shifters mounted behind the steering wheel.

The 1.5-litre diesel engine produces 115 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 250 Nm. It will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Will look like a SUV

The design profile of Carens does not look like a regular MPV. It gets a flat bonnet, aggressive bumper design and sleek Y-shaped LED Daytime Running lamps and strong shoulder lines. There is plastic cladding that runs throughout the length of the car as we can see in the video. There are also 5-spoke alloy wheels.

The headlamps will have a split setup so they will sit below the LED DRLs. We have spotted Carens with a halogen setup but we expect Kia to offer an LED setup on the top-end variant. There will be LED tail lamps, high mounted stop lamps and a rear wiper with a washer.

Long Feature list

Just like Hyundai, Kia is known to offer a log feature list with its cars. Carens will not be any different. The spy shots of the interior are already leaked and are available on the internet. We know that Carens will come with a digital instrument cluster. It is very similar to the ones found on the Hyundai Venue and Hyundai Verna but has been redesigned heavily.

The test mule that was spied was equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. We are expecting Kia to use a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system for the top-end variants. Other features that were spotted are cruise control, audio controls mounted on the steering wheel, automatic climate control, and a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel.

Carens would also come with push-button to start/stop the engine, keyless entry, UVO connected car technology, air purifier and much more.
