Kia Carens(KY) MPV will be revealed on December 16th

Kia is working on a new three-row MPV. According to ACI, the new Kia MPV will be globally revealed on 16th December. It has been codenamed KY and the production-spec version is expected to be called Carens because Kia has filed a trademark for it. Kia Carens can launch in the Indian market sometime next year.

Not much is known about the Carens because it has always been spotted with thick camouflage. However, we can make out the sharper lines and a Seltos like sleek design language. There can be a split headlamp design with LED Daytime Running Lamps that will be joined with a piano-black strip. A flat bonnet, an up-right tailgate and roof rails will also be there. Kia will try to make the design of the Carens look like it is not an MPV but a SUV. From the pictures, we know that it will run on 5-spoke alloy wheels.

The wheelbase will be long so we can expect good cabin space. There should be a pretty usable third-row space too. The ground clearance will be enough for tackling our bad Indian roads. There will be hidden compartment storage in the boot. The interior will have a modern-looking cabin.

It will have an electric sunroof that will let in light to the cabin. There will be ambient lighting and second-row curtains on offer. There will also be an air purifier on offer. A source told us that the Carens could come with an electronic button to access the third-row seats. Kia will also offer a touchscreen infotainment system that will offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. We also expect Kia to offer their UVO connected car technology. It would also come with features like cruise control, push-button to start/stop, a multi-function steering wheel, up to 6 airbags, a multi-information display and a lot more.

Kia will offer Carens with a petrol engine as well as a diesel engine. The diesel engine will be the same 1.5-litre diesel engine that we have seen on the Hyundai Alcazar, Creta and the Kia Seltos. It produces 115 PS of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque. It will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

It is still not known which petrol engine will Kia use. There is a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated unit that is offered on the Alcazar and there is a 1.5-litre, naturally aspirated petrol engine that is offered on the Seltos and the Creta. Both the engines are offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard.

The 1.5-litre engine produces 115 PS of max power and 144 Nm of peak torque. It is also offered with a CVT automatic transmission. The 2.0-litre engine is more powerful as it produces 159 PS of max power and 191 Nm of peak torque. It is also offered with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

Kia Carens prices are expected to start from upwards of Rs. 11 lakhs ex-showroom. It will be rivalling other MPVs like Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Mahindra Marazzo, Maruti Suzuki XL6 and Toyota Innova Crysta.
