Kia is all set to launch its new MPV in the Indian market. It will be called Carens and will be launched on December 16th. Kia Carens have been spotted numerous times while testing. Now, the manufacturer has released the official sketches of the Carens. The sketches give us a glimpse of the front quarter, rear quarter and the dashboard design of the MPV.
Up-front we can see there are Y-shaped LED Daytime Running Lamps. The LED DRL’s design looks similar to the tail lamps of the Lamborghini Urus SUV. Then the DRL’s extend to a crease that extends till the front doors and then it is continued from the rear door to the rear quarter panel before eventually meeting the rear LED tail lamp.
It carries a split headlamp design which is now being used in many vehicles. The test mules have been spotted with a halogen headlamp setup but the top-end variants could come with a LED setup. The front-end looks strong and aggressive with a faux skid plate. The bonnet is also quite flat and it gives a muscular look to the Carens.

On the sides, there are 5-spoke alloy wheels which are expected to be diamond-cut. The MPV has been given a floating roof design as all the pillars are blacked out except the D-pillar. There are roof rails and a chrome window belt line that extends all the way to the D-pillar. There will be plastic cladding throughout the side profile of the MPV to give a SUV look.
Then we come to the rear sketch design where we can see a LED tail lamp setup that is connected via a red strip that mimics the look of a light bar. We do not expect the centre piece to be functional. The rear bumper also has a muscular look. There are two reflectors and a faux skid plate. There will be a rear wiper with a washer and a high mounted stop lamp.
Kia has tried to design the Carens to look like a SUV instead of an MPV. People avoid trying MPV, a person won’t buy an Ertiga but then Maruti Suzuki launched XL6 which is the same vehicle underneath but it has been given a SUV and a slightly more up-market look. And now, the XL6 has been doing well among private buyers. Kia is trying to follow the same strategy.
The interior shows us a gear lever for the automatic transmission, a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, a large touchscreen infotainment system and a premium looking dashboard. The interior has already been spied, we know that there will be a digital instrument cluster, the infotainment system will support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and there will also be an automatic climate control system on offer.
Kia has not revealed the engine options but we do know that they will offer a petrol engine and a diesel engine. Both engines will be offered with a manual gearbox or an automatic transmission.
