Kia Seltos bookings to officially open tomorrow

Kia Motors will throw open bookings for the Seltos compact SUV starting tomorrow. The compact SUV will be on display at most of Kia Motors’ dealerships across the country, and customers can take a look at the vehicle before making their bookings. However, test drives won’t be available just as yet. The Seltos uses a new platform borrowed from the new Hyundai Verna. The same platform will also be used for the new Hyundai Creta. Word on the street is that Kia is considering a very attractive price tag for the Seltos, which means that the compact SUV could be priced close to the Creta rather than the Tata Harrier/Mahindra XUV500. Such pricing, backed by the excellent fit and finish, and a car-load of features, should make the Seltos quite attractive to not just Creta buyers but also to Tata Harrier buyers. The SUV will be officially launched in India on the 22nd of August 2019.

Mr. Manohar Bhat, Vice President and Head – Sales and Marketing, Kia Motors India said,

The Kia Seltos has been built from ground-up, keeping Indian customers in mind and is equipped to redefine the segment. I am proud of the hard-work and dedication put in by all our team in the development of the Seltos, and that has paid off in the way the car has come about to be. We are confident that the customers will be equally delighted by the specifications combination and our wide-spread network of 265 touchpoints in 160 cities that will instill confidence and recognition of the brand. We can’t wait for India to experience the stylish Seltos.

The Seltos will pack in Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms compliant petrol and diesel engines right from word go. These engines will be offered on the current Hyundai Creta in a few months time, and will also be carried over to the all-new Creta, lined up for a 2020 launch. The petrol engines will the Kia Seltos will be 1.5 liter naturally aspirated and 1.4 liter turbocharged units. The naturally apsirated petrol will get 113 Bhp-144 Nm outputs, and 6 speed manual and torque converter automatic gearboxes. The 1.4 liter turbocharged petrol engine will get 138 Bhp-242 Nm outputs, and transmission choices will include a 6 speed manual and a 7 speed twin clutch automatic gearbox. The diesel engine will be a 1.5 liter, turbocharged unit with 113 Bhp of peak power and 250 Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine will be paired with 5 speed manual and torque converter automatic gearbox.

The big differentiating factors between the Creta and the Seltos will be the sheer number of features and creature comforts offered on the latter, more transmission and engine options and also a better fit and finish overall. The Seltos will get a massive 10.25 inch touchscreen infotainment unit mounted onto the dashboard through a floating design. This infotainment unit will not only have smartphone connectivity and navigation but also a range of connected car features such as the ones we saw on the Hyundai Venue. A flat bottomed steering wheel, ambient lighting, a Bose sound system, driving modes leather seats, ventilated and power adjustable driver’s seat, electric sunroof, air purifier, a 360 degree camera, automatic LED headlamps, rain sensing wipers and cruise control will be the various features offered on the Seltos’ top-end trim.
