The upcoming Kia Seltos will have more engine and gearbox options than the Creta, including the lot more powerful turbo petrol option. Also, we now know that the Seltos will also be more fuel efficient than the Creta, according to figures put out by ACI. The Seltos 1.5 Petrol has a mileage figure of 16.4 Kmpl while the CVT automatic gearbox equipped petrol does an 16.3 Kmpl, making it slightly less fuel efficient than the manual gearbox equipped model. The diesel powered Seltos gets a mileage figure of 20.8 Kmpl while the same diesel engine when offered with the torque converter automatic gearbox manages 17.8 Kmpl. Comparable figures for the Creta Petrol Manual and Automatic trims are 15.29 Kmpl for both options, and that for the Creta Diesel Manual and Automatic are 19.67 Kmpl and 17.01 Kmpl respectively. Even the turbo petrol engined Seltos is more fuel efficient than the Creta Petrol, with a mileage rating of 16.1 Kmpl for the manual and 16.2 Kmpl for the twin clutch automatic version.
Delving into the various engine and gearbox combinations that will be available on the Seltos, the 1.5 liter naturally aspirated petrol engine will be offered with 6 speed manual and CVT automatic gearboxes. This engine will make 113 Bhp-144 Nm, outputs that are slightly lower than the Creta 1.6 petrol, which makes 121 Bhp-151 Nm. The 1.4 liter turbo petrol engine on the Seltos will make 138 Bhp-242 Nm, and will be offered with 6 speed manual and 7 speed twin clutch automatic gearboxes.
The diesel engine will be a 1.5 liter turbocharged unit with 113 Bhp-250 Nm, and this engine is also slightly less powerful than the Creta Diesel 1.6, which makes 126 Bhp-260 Nm. The diesel engine will be offered with 6 speed manual and 6 speed torque converter automatic gearboxes. All three engines will be Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms compliant right from day one. The BS6 compliance is the main reason for good mileage of these engines as lower tail pipe emissions mean better fuel efficiency.
The Seltos will be a seriously loaded SUV in terms of features, and is likely to be pricier than the Creta by about Rs. 1 lakh, variant to variant. The top-end variants of the SUV will get an electric sunroof, leather seats, power adjustable driver’s seat with ventilation, a 10.25 inch touchscreen infotainment unit with many connectivity and multimedia functions, Smart Car features, air purifier, automatic headlamps and wipers, push button start and keyless entry, cruise control, automatic climate control, ambient lighting and more. Bookings for the Seltos are now open across all Kia Motors dealerships across India and the booking amount is pegged at Rs. 25,000. The actual launch of the Seltos will happen on the 22nd of August. Demand for the compact SUV has been high, and the Seltos is breaking records when it comes to the sheer number of pre-bookings. On the first day of bookings opening, the SUV managed over 6,000 bookings.
