Kia Sonet compact SUV unveiled: Launching soon

Kia Motors has just unveiled the Sonet and the prices for the sub-4 meter compact SUV will be announced at launch, which is expected to happen next month. We hope that Kia Motors manages to keep a competitive price for its product, turning on the heat in this already competitive sub-4 meter SUV segment. This is a sub-4 meter compact SUV that will compete with cars like Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and Ford EcoSport.

Kia Sonet is available in three engine options. The GT Line which is the most powerful version is powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine. This engine is available with a 7-speed DCT, manual and iMT gearbox. Next is the 1.2 litre naturally aspirated engine that is available with a manual gearbox only. The 1.5-litre diesel engine offers a 7-speed torque converter automatic transmission which is a segment-first. All the other diesel compact SUVs in the segment are offered with an AMT only.

Kia Motors had showcased the Sonet Concept at the Auto Expo earlier this year and within 6 months of time, they have managed to bring out the production version of the same. The Kia Sonet looking very similar to the concept that was showcased earlier. It offers a solid SUV like styling that will help it stand out in the crowd. It has a design that many young generation buyers would actually like.

In terms of features, it has an all-LED headlamp with a ‘heartbeat’ shaped DRL. The SUV has faux skid plates both at the front and the rear to give it more of an SUV look. The Tiger nose grille is retained and has gloss black or gloss black with red inserts in it depending upon the version.  The side profile gets a boxy design with sporty looking alloy wheels.

It is available in Tech Line and GT Line versions. The Tech Line is the regular version whereas the GT Line gets red accents at different places to give it a sporty touch. The rear gets all-LED tail lamps with a reflector bar connecting both lights. The lower part of the bumper looks muscular and has a gloss black finish with silver coloured faux exhausts.

On the inside, It gets a feature-loaded cabin. It has front ventilated seats, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with connected car features, smart air purifier with virus protection, electric sunroof, multi-function steering wheel, wireless charging, rear AC vents and so on. It also offers drive modes, audio system from Bose, ambient lighting and TPMS.

Kia Motors quickly became popular in the Indian market because of its first product Seltos. People loved that SUV because of various reasons like the looks, features, price and variety of engine options. Kia Motors now plans to work their magic once again with their third product Sonet SUV.
