Kia is all set to make its debut in India next month. The first vehicle launched by the company will be the SP2i compact SUV which will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Nissan Kicks among others. The launch date of the Kia SP2i is reportedly set for 20th of June, 2019. Based on the SP concept shown at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo, it could possibly be called the Tusker in India upon its launch. The company recently released sketches of the near production model which give a good idea of how the car will turn out to look like. The render below completes the sketches and looks very realistic, almost production spec like.
It gets the Tiger Nose inspired grille which has been actively highlighted as one its distinguishing design feature. The sleek LED DRLs look quite cool and unlike other cars we’ve seen with switched headlamp design, this render places the headlamps just below the DRLs. This is on the lines of the design sketches released earlier today. It looks quite a smart upfront and has a butch profile which will probably be liked by buyers. A silver bash plate has been placed at the front bumper’s lower end. The foglamp housings here are covered with black plastic but the sketches suggest that they will be LED unit.
Coming to the rear, we see the wide stance and overall butch looks of the SP2i SUV continuing here too. It looks pretty premium and gets a chrome bar running between the LED tail lamps along with a blacked out lower bumper. The roof has been painted white here which creates a contrast with the golden brown body shade. The SP2i here runs on multi-spoke rims that look quite cool.
Talking about the upcoming Kia SP2i compact SUVs interiors, Kia is said to have made them quite premium. The wheelbase of the Kia compact SUV will be larger than the Hyundai Creta and therefore it can be expected that it will have more space and comfort on the inside. The car will also come loaded with features to take on the competition. This includes a floating touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, one-touch power windows, and rear bench with three adjustable headrests. Kia is also not falling short on the safety aspect and the car will feature disc brakes on all four wheels, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX child seat anchors as standard.
Coming to the engine, it is likely to be powered by a 1.4 liter turbo petrol engine producing 140 Bhp. A 1.5 liter petrol and diesel engine are also expected. Kia will also bring a sportier version of the SP SUV in 2020. An all-wheel-drive variant, however, is unlikely to be launched. With the launching to allegedly happen on the 20th of June, the Kia SUV is likely to be priced in the Rs 10 lakh to Rs 16 lakh range.
