Kia to bring more EV6 units to India; bookings crossed 350

The South Korean automaker Kia Corporation has taken the entire nation by storm with the launch of its newest electric crossover EV6. The company officially launched the vehicle on the 2nd of June and it would be safe to say that it received an overwhelming response from the EV buyers of the country.

Kia introduced the EV6 in India as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) with the plans of selling a limited 100 units in India. But to its surprise, the South Korean carmaker has received more than 355 bookings on the day of its launch alone. And because of this, the company is planning to import additional cars to India.

However, there is no assurance that the outstanding orders will be filled quickly. Due to worldwide supply concerns, the company is hesitant about giving any exact dates for the deliveries of the remaining bookings as there is a lot of delay in the manufacturing of the EV6 in Korea. Currently, the Indian office is in discussions with the parent company in Korea to get as many EV6 machines to our shores as possible in order to match the demand. However, as the model is very popular in international markets also the demand is extremely high.

The new Kia EV6 has entered the crossover SUV market with a long-range, zero-emissions powertrain, 800V ultra-fast charging, and a stunning aesthetic package. On the design front, Kia has given the EV6 some sleek looking DRLs in the front along with a pair of LED headlights. The lights also amalgamate into the car’s digital tiger face, a design development that is similar to Kia’s electrified tiger-nose grille. Moving a little further below, an air intake visibly expands the front of the car. Kia will offer the EV6 in five colours. There is Yacht Blue, Aurora Black Pearl, Runway Red, Snow White Pearl and Moonscape

Kia has crafted the interior of the EV6 with a similar intricacy as the exterior as well. On the inside, the EV6 will be offered in an all-black color with black suede seats with vegan leather bolsters. It will get 64 colour ambient lighting, electric sunroof, ventilated front seats, vegan leather-wrapped steering wheel, anti-glare rearview mirror, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, sporty alloy pedals, dual-zone climate control, wireless charger, multiple drive modes, smart key, push-button to start/stop, 10-way adjustable driver seat with memory function and much more.

It will also get paddle shifters for brak regeneration, connected car features, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold function, LED headlamps with adaptive driving beam, dual 12.3-inch curved screens, Shift by wire, rain-sensing wipers etc.

Furthermore, it will also come equipped with LED tail lamps with sequential turn indicators,LED fog lamps, flush door handles, 19-inch crystal cut alloy wheels, rear light bar and solar glass, metal scuff plates, a powered tailgate, a Meridian sound system, a heads-up display with augmented reality, a powered tailgate and motorized flush door handles depending upon on the variant you choose.

The EV6 also comes with ADAS or Advanced Driver Aids System. So, you get Blind Spot Detection, Blind Spot Collision Assist, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Safe Exit Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Avoidance, Rear Cross Traffic Avoidance, Adaptive Cruise control with Stop and go functionality and Lane Follow Assist.

As for the performance, the RWD version gets a single motor at the rear axle. It produces 229 Ps of max power and 350 Nm of peak torque. The all-wheel-drive version produces 325 Ps of max power and 605 Nm of peak torque. Kia claims that EV6 can hit 100 kmph in 3.5 seconds. And for its driving range & battery size, it will come equipped with a 77.4 kWh battery pack and The driving range is 528 km as per the WLTP test. The charging times depend on the type of charger that you are using. If you use a 350 kW fast charger then the battery can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in 18 minutes. But if you use a 50 kWh charger then it will take 73 minutes. In the foreign markets, Kia also offers a smaller 58 kWh battery pack.

The EV6 crossover is being offered in two variants. There is GT Line which is priced at Rs. 59.95 lakhs ex-showroom and GT Line AWD which is priced at Rs. 64.95 lakhs ex-showroom.
