Snapshot – In India, cricket attracts money in the millions and the folks who are associated with the gentleman’s game often go from rich to richer. Cricket czar-in-exile Lalit Modi has family money, and the man likes to flaunt it. Though sought by the Indian authorities for various alleged misdemeanors, the man continues to live an extravagant life in London, a city that he is currently based out of. An opulent lifestyle means flashy cars, and the cricket mogul has plenty of them. Here are a few of the rides that Lalit Modi is seen in, in India, and in London.
BMW 7-Series 760 Li Luxury Saloon
In India, Lalit Modi is seen most often in the back seat of his BMW 7-Series 760 Li luxury saloon. The car is the top-end variant in the 7-Series line up, and uses a large 6 liter V12 petrol engine with 540 Bhp and 760 Nm on tap. This long and low BMW can do crazy speeds if the driver puts pedal to metal.
That’s not for what this car is bought though. The buyers of the 7-Series Bimmer do so for the luxury it ensconces its back seaters in. The one that the cricket mogul owns loaded to the gills with entertainment options for the back seat occupants. Asking price? 1.95 crore rupees.
Range Rover Autobiography Luxury SUV
Lalit Modi has been facing more than a few issues with the latest generation Range Rover Autobiography luxury SUV, so much so that the man tweeted out to none other than Ratan Tata himself. The Range Rover that the exiled tycoon is seen in belongs to his UK garage though as he has been holed up in London ever since India proved to be too hot to handle after the FEMA charges. The Range Rover Autobiography is one of the most opulent luxury SUVs in the world, and sells in India at a list price of about 2.75 crore rupees.
W221 Mercedes Benz
The other car that Lalit Modi is seen in when he’s in India is the W221 Mercedes Benz S-Class. The W221 is the previous generation version of the luxury saloon that the rich and famous patronize for its plush ride quality and status. The W221 S-Class that Mr. Modi favours is one of the best selling variants of the car – the S350 CDI model. The S350 CDI variant uses a 3 liter V6 turbo diesel engine, which is both punchy and fuel efficient. For those who long the big miles, this car makes the most sense in the S-Class range.
W222 Mercedes Benz S-Class Luxury Saloon
Lalit Modi’s son Ruchir has been frequently spotted being chauffeured in his dad’s W222 Mercedes Benz S-Class. The black luxury saloon was always surrounded by a posse of armed guards in a convoy of vehicles as Ruchir’s life was said to be under threat in India.
Now though, Ruchir lives with his father in London, where the former has another Mercedes Benz as his disposal, this time an SUV. Meanwhile, the W222 S-Class is Mercedes Benz’s latest flagship saloon that is armed to the teeth with technology.
Mercedes Benz G63 AMG SUV
Lalit Modi bought his son Ruchir a Mercedes Benz G63 AMG high performance SUV, which the latter is seen driving around in London. The G63 AMG is a high performance version of the legendary Gelandewagen (G-Wagen) G-Class off roader, which Mercedes Benz put together initially for the Shah of Iran. ‘Like father, like son’ has been the story when it comes to the service experience with Mercedes Benz UK though. Ruchir has gone on to tweet the poor service that Mercedes Benz UK have rendered.
Lalit Modi’s wife Minal gifted him a Ferrari California that the cricket czar has proudly packed outside his house in London’s tony Sloane Square. The California is a drop top car, which allows its occupants to enjoy high performance, wind-in-the-hair motoring when in the mood for it. The car is a hot seller and is one of the most affordable cars in Ferrari’s range. Ratan Tata owns one and can be seen driving the car with the top down on Sunday mornings at Mumbai’s Marine Drive.
Ferrari F12 Berlinetta
When Lalit Modi turned 50, his son, also a car freak like his father, surprised him by getting him the CRI3KET registration plate for the former’s Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. Such registration plates go for a big premium in the developed nations, just as fancy numbers do in India.
The Ferrari F12 Berlinetta is also sold in India, and the car goes for a princely 4.72 crore rupees, which makes it the most expensive Ferrari on sale here. The F12 Berlinetta was also the most powerful and fastest Ferrari, when it made its debut at Geneva 2012.
Aston Martin Rapide
The Aston Martin Rapide is a car that Lalit Modi gifted his wife Minal, who doesn’t seem to man’s passion for fast automobiles. So, the Aston Martin Rapide that belong to Minal is instead driven about the roads of London by Lalit Modi. The car is also sold in India, and goes for a sticker price of 3.5 crore rupees. The Rapide uses a 6 liter V12 naturally aspirated petrol engine that pushes out 350 Bhp and 600 Nm. A 6 speed automatic gearbox that drives the rear wheels comes standard.
