Rescue operations
Within an hour, a four-member SOS team from the Manikdoh Leopard Rescue Centre, led by Wildlife SOS veterinary officers Dr Nikhil Bangar and Dr Shubham Patil, arrived at the plant and started the search operation for the leopard. After locating the leopard and securing the area, Mr Bangar tranquillized the leopard using a gun from a distance. After the leopard lost his consciousness, he was shifted in a cage ad handed over to the Forest Department of Chakan.
Dr Bangar confirmed that the leopard which lost its way in the production facility of Mercedes Benz India was a male leopard of approximately 2-3 years of age. He thanked the Forest Department of Chakan for acting promptly in saving the leopard.
Adding to his words, Kartick Satyanarayan, CEO and co-founder of Wildlife SOS, showed his concern on the rising frequency of leopards entering into the areas populated by humans due to a rapid loss in their habitat. He added that his team is well-trained enough to take on such circumstances and save the animals in distress and assure the safety of humans.
Another Range Forest Officer of Chakan Forest Department, Mr Yogesh Mahajan, said that the leopard is currently under the medical observation of the Forest Department and will be released into its natural habitat soon.
