LIVE Updates: Mahindra S201/ XUV300 SUV name reveal event

We zoomed into the official sketch and found out a little secret – the AMT gear lever. This clearly means the XUV300 will come with an optional AMT, but at a later stage

Before I sign off, just to re-collect, the Mahindra XUV300 will come with segment first / unique features like seven airbags, dual zone climate control, all four disc brakes, longest wheelbase in the segment and the highest torque output. Additionally, it will also come with a sunroof, 17 inch alloy wheels and only manual gearbox options right now.

The XUV3OO will have the longest wheelbase for any sub 4 meter SUV anywhere in the world. The engines will meet BS-6 emission norms.

This will be a sub 4 meter SUV which means it will lock horns with Maruti Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon. 7 Airbags makes it the first car in the category to have such a safety feature. The XUV3OO is based on the Tivoli which already has the highest safety standing in Korea. This one too then could create a benchmark.

All specifications, feature list and pricing will only be out next year in 2019. But these are the official images and the interior showcase. All the best to Mahindra! Pricing will be declared in mid Feb 2019 they say. And only a manual gearbox for the petrol and diesel will offered as of now – no automatic.

The final concept sketch is the one you see above. The S201 meets the needs of a modern, urban. customer in terms of the design language. We feel this will be a head turner.

The S201 / XUV300 will have the best in class torque and a 6 speed transmission. Exact power / torque figures are yet to be revealed. Ditto for the fuel economy figures.

Mahindra spoke to current customers of compact SUVs for a proper feedback and what to incorporate in the vehicle. It will have a head turning design, fun to drive performance, 1st in class hi tech features, best in class safety and class defining interiors. Wow, that’s a lot! This includes seven airbags, all four disc brakes and dual zone climate control

The S201 / XUV300 will play in the compact UV market which offers the best of a sedan and an SUV.

The S201 is designed to be a object of desire says Mr Goenka. Mahindra will bring in the maximum number of safety features for the segment. More details however only at the launch event later next year.

Pawan Goenka, MD of Mahindra & Mahindra now on the stage and starts the event by saying that the S201 / XUV300 will be made at the Nashik plant and will come with both a petrol and diesel unit each. It is made on the Ssangyong Tivoli platform and is the 3rd all-new launch by company for FY 2018-2019. The Tivoli is the most successful product every by Ssangyong by the way.
