Locally assembled Mercedes Benz S-Class luxury sedan launched: Becomes Rs. 60 lakh cheaper

Mercedes-Benz has just launched the locally assembled version of the S-Class in the Indian market. It is available in two variants. There is S350d that is priced at Rs 1.57 Crores ex-showroom and S450 4Matic is priced at Rs. 1.62 Crores ex-showroom. Because the S-Class now comes as a Completely Knocked Down unit instead of a Completely Built Unit, its prices have decreased by Rs. 60 lakhs.

The S-Class is the flagship sedan of Mercedes-Benz. It measures 5,289 mm in length, 2,109 mm in width, 1,503 mm in height. India only gets the long-wheelbase version of the S-Class so the wheelbase measures 3,216 mm.

Engine and gearbox

Mercedes-Benz is offering the new S-Class with a petrol engine and a diesel engine. Both the engines are mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Petrol engine is a 3.0-litre unit that is turbocharged and comes with a 48V mild-hybrid technology. It produces 367 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 500 Nm. The 48V system adds 22 PS and 250 Nm additionally. The power is sent to all four wheels using Mercedes’s 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. Then there is the 3.0-litre diesel engine that produces 286 PS of max power and 600 Nm of peak torque. The power is sent to only the rear wheels. Both the engines have a top speed of 250 kmph.

Mercedes-Benz has equipped the S-Class with all the bells and whites that it can offer. It gets all LED lighting, flush sitting door handles that pop out electrically, ambient lighting, a 15 speaker Burmester sound system, connected car technology, and electric adjustment for the front seats with memory and lumbar function. There is also a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system placed vertically that is running on the latest MBUX operating system. The driver gets a digital driver’s display that is configurable and a multi-functional steering wheel.

The S-Class is mainly for chauffer driven people. So, the rear occupants also get a ton of features. The rear seats can recline and have a massaging function, they also get rear-seat entertainment screens, a centre armrest, a tablet to control various functions and much more. There are also three different leather upholstery options to choose from.

Advanced Driver Assistance System

The new S-Class also comes with an Advanced Driver Assistance System or ADAS. It includes various automated features such as Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Steering Assist, Evasive Steering Assist and Active Distance Assist Distronic. Moreover, there is Attention Assist, Pre-Safe Plus, Active Brake Assist, Active Parking Assist and Pre-Safe Impulse Side.
