Lucky old man on scooter escapes after coming under the wheels of a truck [Video]

While most people do not realise it, the visibility from heavy vehicles is very poor. We have seen many accidents involving heavy vehicles in the past. Here is one more that shows how poor visibility causes accidents. The CCTV footage from Kerala shows the same.

The video shows an unidentified road in Kerala where a bus makes a stop for passengers. While the traffic stops completely, an old-aged scooter rider comes to a complete stop just in front of a full-size dumper. As the traffic starts moving, the driver of the dumper starts moving ahead. The scooter rider, who was waiting in front of the truck came under the wheels and got dragged for a few metres.

The onlookers and pedestrians quickly wave at the driver of the dumper and ask him to stop. Luckily, the tyres of the truck did not go over the scooter rider or the result would have been catastrophic. The video shows that the scooter saved the rider from coming under the wheels of the truck.

The rider got stuck under the dumper. After the driver takes the vehicle in reverse, people around gather to take out the rider safely. He looks physically fine in the video footage. Since the rider was wearing a helmet, we do not think that there are any serious injuries.

However, this video sure highlights the poor visibility of heavy vehicles.

Blind spots of heavy vehicles

Even though the heavy vehicle drivers sit at a high position, the visibility from such vehicles is quite low. That is why it is important to understand that heavy vehicle drivers cannot see around the vehicle as well as drivers of other vehicles. There are numerous demonstrations that show the massive blind spots around heavy vehicles. This is why it is always important to know these blind spots and move accordingly around a heavy vehicle like a truck or a bus.

Most drivers of heavy vehicles cannot see what lies immediately in front of the vehicle. This is why most drivers try to move as slow as possible in heavy traffic situations. This knowledge is especially very important for the two-wheeler riders who try to get into the smallest gaps in a heavy traffic situation.

Always make sure that you maintain enough distance while overtaking a heavy vehicle, including buses. Most of the time, the brake lights of such vehicles do not work properly.
