Mahindra has also noted that the Alturas will not only compete with the segment leading Toyota Fortuner but will also aim to take on German imports such as the BMW X1, Audi Q3 and Volvo XC40.

As for key features that Mahindra says will make the Alturas ‘redefine the high-end SUV segment’, the SUV will  receive a segment leading 9 airbags, 8 way powered driver seat with memory profilt, dual zone fully automatic climate control, a 360 degree surround camera, active rollover protection and ventilated seats.

To make the buying experience special and befitting a 30 lakh rupee SUV, Mahindra will also retail the Alturas G4  through a separate dealership section integrated within the existing dealerships. This section will have relationship  managers to handle Alturas customers specifically.

Mahindra Alturas to compete with Toyota Fortuner & German SUVs: Key features revealed

Veejay Ram Nakra, Chief of Sales & Marketing, M&M Ltd. said,

The Alturas G4 is our most luxurious offering till date and will come with a host of technology & safety features,  many of which are not available in vehicles in a similar price range. We have always been a pioneer when it comes to  creating industry benchmarks and the Alturas G4 will be no different. We are certain that with the Alturas G4, we  would redefine the high-end SUV segment

The Mahindra Alturas is a body-on-ladder frame equipped SUV that will be sold only with a Mercedes Benz-sourced, 7 speed automatic gearbox as standard. The engine will be a 2.2 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged diesel with 187 Bhp of  peak power and 420 Nm of peak torque. A four wheel drive transfer case will be offered on the top-end G4 variant.

The Mahindra Alturas comes with towering dimensions, and is in fact larger than the Toyota Fortuner. Needless to say, the SUV will have big road presence. It will be built at Mahindra’s Chakan factory from completely knocked down (CKD) kits imported from Ssangyong, South Korea.

As for pricing, we expect the Alturas G4 to undercut both the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour and drive home the  ‘value-for-money’ point. As far as brand value goes, aMahindra is no Ford or Toyota. Sharp pricing will ensure that the Alturas finds enough takers in the Indian market.
