2018 turned out to be an important year for Mahindra in many respects. The company launched the Marazzo, got the sales crown back from Compass to XUV500 and relaunched Jawa motorcycles brand. However, the biggest things are kept for last and Mahindra thus has saved its most premium product for now. We are talking about the Alturas G4, which is to be launched on 24th of this month. The Alturas will be a full size SUV which will rival the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour upon its arrival. Lots of people have been curious about how the car looks in real world. Therefore, we take you through a detailed picture gallery that will explore the Alturas G4 thoroughly before its launch.
The Mahindra Alturas G4 has an imposing stance thanks to its huge ground clearance and sheer size. On the front it gets the signature Mahindra grille flanked by projector headlamps. It also get LED DRLS, a given in this segment. The Alturas is in fact a rebranded SsangYong Rexton G4 which is on sale in many international markets.
The rear profile is smart too and the Altuas has some proper big car manners. Especially if compared to the older Rexton, the Alturas is pleasing to look at, if not the best looker in its segment. This rear three quarter angle shows the Alturas in its full glory. Silver roof rails and those gorgeous 5 spoke alloy further compliment its rugged nature.
The Alturas comes with a much welcomed feature of sunroof in this segment. While it is common for sedans in this price club to have a sunroof, SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner still haven’t got one. The sunroof lends an airy feel to the interiors and provides quite a relief in summer days.
All show and no go is not what the Alturas is meant to do. Mahindra has equipped it with a proper functioning 4WD system which will help it to take on any terrain. However, only the G4 variant will come with the 4WD drivetrain. The G2 version will be a 2WD variant.
The interiors of the Alturas are of premium quality and better than the usual Mahindra stuff. This can be attributed to the fact that it is developed by SsangYong. The interiors have high quality material and soft plastics everywhere. The centre space is taken by a large touch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with a 360-degree camera. The steering unit looks premium and so does the instrument cluster.
The Alturas G4 will feature a 7 speed automatic transmission sytem. It will be mated to a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine which churns out a good 187 Bhp of power and 420 Nm of peak torque.
The quality of materials is quite good everywhere. Like in the picture above, high quality plastics adorn the drive selector, finished in piano black glossy finish.
Being the flagship Mahindra vehicle, the Alturas G4 gets many premium features. One of them is the memory function for seat adjustment. This lets you save a particular seat setting and and acess it later with just the touch of a button. No more sliding and grappling to get the perfect seat setting every time.
The rear bench offers plenty of leg and head room, even for tall passengers. The dual tone theme looks quite premium and a welcome change from the usual beige we see on many cars. Rear passengers get separate AC vents and charger point among other features. Also, silver accents on door handles look premium. Detailing done right we say.
Picturesque, ain’t it. The Alturas matches shoulder with its rivals in terms of styling and beats them by a big margin in terms of dimensions. Right amount of chrome and huge presence further enhance its purpose of being an all weather SUV.
The Alturas G4 will be offered with five different colour options by the company. These will be called as New Pearl White, Napoli Black, Lakeside Brown, Drizzle Silver and the flagship Regal Blue colour.
