Mahindra Alturas more PREMIUM than Toyota Fortuner: 6 reasons!

Indian carmaker Mahindra is all set to launch its flagship SUV, the Alturas G4 in India on the 21st of November 2018. The Alturas G4 will enter a segment that has been dominated by the Toyota Fortuner for quite a long time now.

While beating the Fortuner will take quite the effort, the Alturas comes packed with a whole host of premium features that Mahindra hopes will help draw customers away from the Japanese SUV. In this post, we’ll take a look at 6 features that make the upcoming Alturas a more premium offering than the Toyota Fortuner.

Larger, inside and out

Mahindra Alturas G4

The Alturas G4 will be the largest SUV ever produced by Mahindra for the passenger segment. The Alturas G4 is 4,850mm long, 1,960mm wide, and 1,800mm tall. The wheelbase of the Alturas G4 is 2,865mm long.

The Toyota Fortuner, compared to Alturas G4 is smaller in every dimension except for height, where it edges out the upcoming Mahindra SUV by 35 mm. The Fortuner is 4,795mm long, 1,855mm wide and 1,835mm tall. The wheelbase of the Fortuner is 120mm shorter than that of the Alturas at just 2,745mm.

The extra wheelbase length means that the Alturas will offer its passengers a whole lot more room than the Fortuner in the two back rows of seats.

Ventilated Seats

Alturas Interior Rear

The interiors of the Alturas G4 is where the Mahindra SUV will edge out the Toyota Fortuner. Mahindra has confirmed that the Alturas G4 will feature ventilated seats, which allow for hot or cool air to flow through them. The Toyota Fortuner does not get this feature. So if you have an Alturas G4 booked, you can cool down or warm your body up, especially your back no matter what the weather is like outside.

9 Airbags

The Alturas G4 will also come packed with a whole host of safety features including 9 airbags which deploy if you find yourself in a crash. In all, the Alturas offers two more airbags compared to the Fortuner, which comes with 7 airbags and so should be a safer option compared to its Japanese rival.

Sunroofs are fast becoming a popular option for car owners in India. Mahindra has fitted the Alturas G4 with a sunroof though, it is still not sure if every variant of the SUV will come with this feature. The Toyota Fortuner, on the other hand, does not get a sunroof on any of its variants, so if you like to gaze at the sky or like the wind blowing through your hair in your SUV, then the only choice between the two is the Alturas G4 from Mahindra.

360-degree camera

Parking your large-size SUV can be a real problem, especially in India’s crowded cities. Toyota offers the Fortuner with reversing cameras, but Mahindra will take that to a whole new level with the Alturas G4 with a new 360-degree camera system. This should make parking the new Mahindra SUV a whole lot easier than its Japanese rival.

Active Rollover Mitigation

Toyota offers the Fortuner with Electronic Stability Program (ESP) safety feature which helps control the SUV if it detects a loss of traction. Mahindra will take that a step further with the new Alturas by offering it with ESP with Active Rollover Mitigation. This system is also found on the XUV500 and it actively helps reduce the risk of the SUV rolling over whenever it changes direction or makes a turn.
