Mahindra’s festive season launch for 2017 will be the KUV100 NXT, which will be launched on October 10th. NXT here stands for the facelifted version of this micro crossover, which was launched in India early in 2016. The vehicle has already reached dealerships.
The reason Mahindra is launching a facelifted version so soon is to improve sales. The KUV100 is priced similar to the Maruti Swift and Ford Figo but has better street presence. It also a unique 3+3 seating layout, designed to accommodate 6 adults.
Major changes in the KUV100 NXT will be in terms of design and mechanicals. The facelifted version gets a new front bumper and grille elements. Alloy wheel design is new as well. At the rear, the bumper has changed. These changes also improve the vehicle’s approach and departure angles.
This is very useful on bad roads as the KUV100 NXT will now be able to tackle even the meanest speed breakers and potholes. Suspension has been tuned to improve ride quality. To reduce noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels of the engine, mounts have been redesigned.
The interiors get an all-black finish for the top-end model. Buyers will also be able to order the top-end model in a 5 seat layout. Mahindra has also fitted a touch screen infotainment system on the top variant of the KUV100 NXT. As you can see, the company has taken customer feedback into account and worked on making the product more appealing.
The KUV100 still has some weak points. 1. It’s design – though unique – is quite disproportionate from the sides. This is a big turn off for many buyers who want classy looks. 2. Three cylinder engines are not as refined as the four cylinder ones used by the competition.
Since we’re dealing with engines now, let’s inform you that the same 1.2 liter-3 cylinder petrol and turbocharged diesel engines will continue on the facelift model. The gearbox will also be the same 5 speed manual unit. Mahindra may add AMT to the vehicle next year.
