The Mahindra Marazzao MPV is just a few weeks away from launch in India. An all-new vehicle designed jointly by Mahindra’s Indian and American research divisions, the Marazzo is a global vehicle. Also, the monocoque platform that the Marazzo is based on will underpin a range of luxury cars from Mahindra. The Marazzo is Mahindra’s longest and largest car. It’s ample dimensions will be the base for more large and luxurious cars that the company will launch in the future. The platform has been developed with SUVs also in mind. In addition, Mahindra may build electric and hybrid variants on the same platform considering the overall direction that the car industry is now taking.
As for the Marazzo’s positioning, it isn’t likely to be sold as a premium MPV but rather as a vehicle that will appeal to value-conscious buyers. As large as the best-selling Toyota Innova Crysta but much cheaper, the Marazzo is likely to sit in between the Innova and the new Maruti Ertiga. It’ll pack a newly developed 1.6-litre turbocharged diesel engine, and is likely to offer both manual and automatic gearbox options. Mahindra is also expected to offer a turbocharged petrol engine option on the Marazzo. For now though, specific details about the petrol engine are yet to be revealed.
While the Marazzo will offer a front-wheel drive layout as standard, the platform is four-wheel drive ready. In fact, international variants of the MPV are likely to pack in the all-wheel drive layout. The MPV is expected to be feature-rich, a trait that it will share with more luxurious Mahindra cars that the company will introduce in the coming years. The automaker has also started moving up the value chain. It plans to soon introduce the XUV700, a 7-seat rebadged version of the Ssangyong Rexton G4. To sell luxury cars, Mahindra dealerships will also get Prime zones, similar to Maruti’s NEXA line-up of premium dealerships.
