Mahindra Marazzo MPV to get a big price hike soon: Hurry if you want one

Mahindra’s latest launch in India – the Marazzo MPV – will soon receive a big price hike between Rs. 30,000-40,000.  Mahindra says that the introductory price for the Marazzo would have lasted for a full four months by the end of  December, which is a fair amount of time for the initial set of buyers to opt for the MPV.

Veejay Ram Nakra, Chief of Sales and Marketing – Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Limited,  had this to say about the price hike,

As mentioned at the launch, the price of Marazzo was an introductory one. Effective January 1st 2019, we will be taking a price hike on the Marazzo, after a reasonable period of 4 months from its launch.

This announcement, which comes well within November, is meant to give prospective buyers of the Mahindra Marazzo a chance to buy the MPV at the ‘introductory’ prices. Currently, prices of the Mahindra Marazzo MPV range between Rs. 9.99 lakhs and Rs. 13.87 lakhs.

This pricing strategy has put the MPV in between the Maruti Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crysta. A brand new, 2nd  generation version of the Maruti Ertiga is due next week. Mahindra may well have considered the impending launch of the Ertiga to announce the upcoming price hike for the Marazzo.

The upcoming Maruti Ertiga, which is larger and more upmarket-looking than the outgoing version, is not a direct  Mahindra Marazzo competitor as it will be priced much lower. However, a lot of MPV buyers considering the Marazzo may be interested in the new Ertiga as it’s more compact than the Marazzo, and also comes with a petrol engine option.

For its part, Mahindra is working on a petrol engine for the Marazzo but it won’t be until early 2020 when the new  motor will be offered on the MPV. This is because Mahindra wants to introduce the petrol powered Marazzo to coincide with the upcoming Bharat Stage 6 emission norms, which kick in from Aprul 2020.

Apart from a turbo petrol engine, the Marazzo will also get a diesel AMT variant. Again, the launch of the Mahindra  Marazzo Diesel AMT is expected to happen close to April 2020. Until then, the current Marazzo, with a diesel engine  and a manual gearbox will continue unchanged.

The Mahindra Marazzo is powered by a newly developed, 1.5 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. The motor  makes 121 Bhp and 300 Nm. A 6 speed manual gearbox is standard. The Mahindra Marazzo is a body-on-ladder MPV but is front wheel driven, much unlike most body on ladder vehicles that are rear wheel driven.
