Mahindra and Mahindra has revealed their first cars on the “Born Electric” platform in India. While Mahindra showcased the vehicles in images last year, this is the first time that the concept vehicles made appearances in the public. Mahindra plans to launch a new range of electric SUVs in the Indian market. Mahindra revealed the details of the all-new BE.05 and BE.05 RALL E.
The XUV BE.05 is one of the three SUVs that Mahindra showcased in the concept form. Based on the new INGLO platform in collaboration with Volkswagen, the new BE range of SUVs will be based on “Born Electric” platforms and will not get an ICE version. Mahindra says that the XUV.e range will be the first electric SUV of the line-up to reach the Indian market. The production will happen from December 2024. The BE range based on the INGLO platform will come to the market by 2025.
Mahindra BE 05
While Mahindra did not share the exact details of the car. The INGLO platform developed with the Volkswagen Group shares many components with Volkswagen’s MEB platform. It is the lightest skateboard platform around and will get high-density batteries.
The manufacturer has also pointed out that the new-age vehicle will be future-ready and will be able to incorporate new technologies when needed. It includes an augmented-enabled heads-up display, 5G network capability and Over-the-air (OTA) updates. The cabin will get edge-to-edge screens.
Mahindra showcased two variants of the upcoming electric SUV in concept form. The BE .05 and BE. 05 RALL-E. Both the vehicles will get structural cages around the passenger cabin and the frontal design of the car will be enhanced with three load paths as well as a multi-piece dash panel with reinforcement. The electric SUV will also come with 5 Radar-1 Vision ADAS architecture and there will be the availability of the L2+ autonomy too.
The car will compete with the Nexon EV going by the first impressions. However, Mahindra has not officially named any competition. The RALL-E variant of the upcoming SUV can take on the Nexon EV Max variant.
Mahindra XUV .e8
This will be the first electric SUV from the brand to go into production. It will arrive in the Indian market in December 2024. The new car will be based on the INGLO platform, which is a Mahindra Born Electric modular platform and will underpin a lot of upcoming electric cars from the brand.
Mahindra will use an 80kWh battery pack with the XUV.e8. It will have a power output in the range of 230 PS to 350 PS. Other details on the powertrain are not out yet.
Mahindra XUV .e9
The new XUV.e9 electric SUV will come to the market in 2025. The design of the XUV.e9 draws inspiration from the XUV Aero Concept. The coupe-like design of the XUV.e9 makes it even longer than the XUV.e8. It is a five-seater version and gets an extremely long wheelbase of 2,775mm.
