Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has issued a recall for more than 1.10 lakh units of its XUV700 and XUV400 EV vehicles. The company stated that 1,08,306 units of the XUV700 manufactured between June 8, 2021, and June 28, 2023, and 3,560 units of the XUV400 manufactured between February 16, 2023, and June 5, 2023, have been impacted by this recall.

The recall stems from safety concerns in these vehicles. For the XUV700, Mahindra will inspect the wiring loom routing in the engine bay of the affected units, which were manufactured between June 8, 2021, and June 28, 2023. The concern is related to a potential risk of abrasion causing damage to the wiring loom.
What is the wiring loom?
The regular terms that are used for the wiring loom is the ‘wiring harness’ or ‘wiring assembly’. These are the bundles of wires you see in the engine bay and elsewhere, which connects all the electrical components and transmits electrical power between them. They can suffer from short circuits, corrosion of end points or physical damage due to a number of issues.
Mahindra XUV 700 was launched in 2021 and since then it is the 5th recall for this popular SUV. The XUV 400 has been recalled for the 1st time. Mahindra’s commitment to refining their products through ongoing improvements demonstrates their dedication to quality. While recalls can be inconvenient for customers, they show Mahindra’s strong customer support and accountability for addressing issues that have arose.
The company has taken proactive steps to ensure the safety and well-being of its customers. Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted directly by Mahindra, and the necessary inspections and rectifications will be carried out free of cost. This recall action is in accordance with the voluntary code on vehicle recalls.
