Mahindra Scorpio Diesel vs Mahindra XUV700 Petrol tug-of-war [Video]

The rising popularity of the XUV700 has overshadowed the success of all other Mahindra cars. While the XUV700 excels in every way and in every department, can it take on the good old Mahindra Scorpio in a tug-of-war? While it is not the best way to judge the capabilities of any vehicle, it is still an interesting way to see the result.

The video by Rehan Yadav Vlogs shows the tug-of-war between the Mahindra Scorpio diesel manual 4X2 and the Mahindra XUV700 petrol-automatic FWD. The tug-of-war is done on the tarmac providing an equal ground to both the vehicles. However, it is a public road and is illegal to do such stunts.

The Mahindra Scorpio gets powered by a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. The four-cylinder engine produces a maximum power of 140 Bhp and a peak torque of 320 Nm of peak torque. The Scorpio in this tug-of-war is a 4X2 version. In the Scorpio, the 4X2 variants power the rear wheels of the car.

The Mahindra XUV700 in this tug-of-war is petrol automatic. It gets a 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 200 PS and a peak torque of 380 Nm. It is the most powerful car in the segment. The automatic variant gets the six-speed torque converter.

XUV700 Vs Scorpio tug-of-war

There were three rounds in the tug-of-war and the Mahindra Scorpio dominated in two of them. The second round was a false start. The XUV700 could not stand its ground. The Scorpio easily pulled it twice.

There are a few things on here. The power and torque of the Mahindra XUV700 are much higher than the Scorpio. However, the Mahindra Scorpio gets a diesel engine, which is why it develops the torque and the power at a lower rpm than the XUV700’s petrol engine.

Also, the Scorpio gets a manual transmission. The driver of the Scorpio could modulate the clutch according to the power delivery and that is why the manuals have a massive advantage over automatics when it comes to tug-of-war.

Tug-of-war can damage your vehicle

This activity is absolutely not advised for any of us, as it can severely damage the vehicle’s engine, transmission and drivetrain. There is an immense force put on the engine and it is maxed out with the four wheels not driving towards anywhere but the engine just resisting force. It can damage the mechanicals of the vehicle permanently.

Always try and refrain from such challenges for the well being and longevity of your cars. Such a tug-of-war can ruin the engine and the transmission of the vehicle. Such extreme force on the vehicle’s engine and transmission can also rapidly increase the wear and tear and make the life of these parts much shorter.
