Mahindra will soon facelift its best selling SUV, the Scorpio. One of our readers caught the SUV testing on the road, with minimum camouflage. The Scorpio is expected to soon be launched in India. The Scorpio will get minor changes on the outside. Both the front and rear portions of the vehicle will get a refresh. The front grille will get new stying with chrome inserts and the bumper will get vertical slats. The rear will get new tail lamps, a new bumper and repositioned badges. The interiors will get some new features like an updated infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and new colour scheme for the seats.

We expect Mahindra to pack the 2.2 liter mHawk turbocharged diesel engine of the SUV with more power and torque. This engine could feature the same state of the tune as the current XUV500 – 140 Bhp and 330 Nm. The entry level Scorpio’s 2.5 liter M2DICR diesel engine’s outputs are expected to be unchanged. In the facelift, Mahindra is also expected to reintroduce a 6 speed automatic gearbox option. The 5 speed manual gearbox will be offered as standard.

The SUV will be sold with rear wheel drive and four wheel drive configurations. It is expected to get ABS and Airbags as standard from the S4 variant. The built to a budget S2 variant may still continue without ABS and Airbags as it is addressed towards a very price sensitive set of buyers in rural areas of India. The Scorpio will continue to operate with a body-on-ladder chassis. This makes the SUV rugged, and gives it appeal among both city and village buyers.
