Mahindra Scorpio-N: A closer look at the most affordable 4X4 version [Video]

4×4 ladder-on-frame SUVs are becoming the new rage in the country and currently, the leading SUV in this segment is Mahindra’s lifestyle off-roader the Thar. Although there is now a new kid on the block and this new kid also happens to be a sibling of the Thar – it’s the all-new Mahindra Scorpio-N. Mahindra has launched the Scorpio-N with four variants starting from base Z2 to all the way up to Z8, but the most popular model in its lineup is the Z4 variant. The Z4 comes with petrol as well as diesel engine options along with manual and automatic transmission options but one thing that makes it even more special is that it is also available with a 4X4 option as well.

Recently, a Youtuber by the name of Yash9w, shared a video on YouTube which shows us the highly popular four-wheel drive variant of the Mahindra Scorpio-N in great detail. The model in the video is a Scorpio-N Z4 Diesel 4×4 equipped with a manual transmission and finished in Napoli Black. As it stands the Z4 four wheel drive variant is the most affordable 4×4 Scorpio-N version in its entire lineup.

The presenter starts the walkaround by first showing the 4×4 badge in the rear left, he explains that in the Z8 four-wheel drive variant the badge at the same location says “4Xplor”. He then moves on to the front and starts showcasing the front of the SUV. He points out the new Mahindra logo along with the grille finished in brushed silver and then shows the halogen headlamps. He then adds that the Z4 variant misses out on fog lamps and skid plates in the front.

Moving on he then shows the Scorpio-N from the front three quarter angle and appreciates the rugged and utilitarian design and black color of the SUV. He explains that although the model comes with silver wheel caps it looks rough and tough with 17 inch black steel wheels. According to the YouTuber the Scorpio-N is the most value for four by vehicle that can be used with family unlike the Thar. He further walks to the rear of the vehicle and presents the rear windshield wiper, defogger and shark-fin antenna.

The video’s presenter then climbs into the SUV to begin showcasing the interior elements. He starts the car and describes the Z4’s extensive feature list, which includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, manual air conditioning, rear AC vents, and a multi-functional steering wheel with audio, Bluetooth, and cruise control switches.

He also mentions a smaller but coloured 4.2-inch MID in the instrument console. He also points out a tonne of practical functions, including a reading light and a place to put your sunglasses. When it comes to safety technology, the Mahindra Scorpio-N Z4 model has hill start assist, hill descent control, electronic stability control, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and reverse parking sensors as standard.

The Mahindra Scorpio-N Z4 comes with two different engine options: a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.2-liter diesel engine. The Scorpio-N Z4’s diesel engine delivers 175 bhp and 370 Nm of torque, while the SUV’s petrol powerplant can produce a maximum of 203 bhp. For the Z4 version, there are two 6-speed gearbox choices: a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. The one shown here was a diesel manual combination.
